Hall of Fame
Richard was a two-sport student-athlete who excelled in both soccer and baseball. A three-year soccer player, Richard set a then-record 11 goals during the 1958 season. This earned him spots on the All-Conference and All-State teams. Once spring arrived, Richard’s athletic success on the baseball field. He was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player in 1959.
The 1960 season saw him compile a 2.11 ERA while registering four wins on the mound as the Cardinals won the state Intercollegiate Athletic Conference crown. After graduation, Richard continued his athletic life as a coach for high school baseball, basketball and soccer. He guided numerous young athletes in community football, American Legion baseball and PAL baseball coach.
A 30-year schoolteacher, Richard taught social studies in the Newark, N.J. school system. At the time of his induction, he also served as Program Supervisor of Social Studies K-12.
