Date of Induction into Cardinal Sports Hall of Fame:

Where is she now:
Gena has worked as a licensed massage therapist since 2009; she started her own business and works out of her home. She specializes in sports and medical massage. Gena pursued that career to work with people in the sports world or ones who are active and take care of their bodies by getting body work done like massages. She loves the challenge of treating the issue and getting the client back or close to 100 percent. As long as the client leaves better than before the massage, she knows that she helped them in her own way.
She currently resides in Morrisonville, N.Y., with her husband, Gaelan, their two children, Krew (turns 2 on Dec. 25) and Oaklyn (4 months), and their dog, Bob. Gena and Gaelan met at CrossFit Plattsburgh and both were coaching soccer teams, and those common interests helped bring them together.
Her biggest professional accomplishment is owning her own business and working out of her home. She grew up in a family of entrepreneurs who worked at home, so that was all she knew. With the convenience and flexibility it gave her parents, she knew it was something she wanted when she grew up. Having that flexibility makes it easier with kids.
Gena says that her biggest personal accomplishment is managing her busy lifestyle while raising her kids. She primarily watches her kids while fitting in massages throughout the day. She is also a CrossFit coach, so along with coaching, fitness is an important part of her life. She likes to stay active with her young kids, but it can be difficult to make time for herself. When they are old enough, she looks forward to getting back into coaching, whether it be the kids’ teams or taking on more classes at CrossFit. With two kids 17 months apart, she says that “it can be challenging trying to maintain my sanity, let alone lifestyle.” But the reward of being able to raise her kids outweighs the craziness that they bring.
Favorite Plattsburgh State Sports Moment:
“One of my favorite memories was during an amazing comeback we had in the SUNYAC Tournament. We were down a goal against Geneseo with less than a minute to go in regulation. The ball was played in the air to me, and I volleyed it into the top-right corner of the net to tie it up and bring the game into overtime. We then lost off a direct kick, but it was a great comeback with time running out, which made it not only exciting, but memorable. Playing the game back on video, you can see Wiley in the background running down the sideline following the play and jumping up and down when we scored, so you could say she was pretty psyched too!!”
