Jeff Gadley participated in track and field from 1974-78 and football in 1977.

He earned his fame in the former sport, establishing a school record in the outdoor decathlon with 6,557 points in 1977.  One of the oldest benchmarks in PSUC annals, that record stood for 30 years until 2010 Winter Olympian John Daly broke it at the 2007 NCAA Championships.  Gadley was a three-time NCAA qualifier in his event, including an 11th-place national finish in 1977.

He also excelled at the international level as he was a brakeman in the four-man bobsled at the 1980 Lake Placid Games, becoming the first-ever black male athlete (along with Willie Davenport) to compete in the Winter Olympics.  The team ended up 12th, but set two American records during qualifying runs.
