A talented two-sport athlete, Wayne Lashway performed at a high level for both the Cardinals’ men’s basketball and baseball programs, competing on the men’s basketball team from 1958-62 and the baseball team during the 1959 and 1961 seasons.Â
Named a Team MVP in both sports, he was tabbed to All-SUNYAC Team in baseball following the 1961 campaign as an Honorable Mention selection. Wayne scored 549 points across 52 games on the Plattsburgh State men’s basketball team, and in 1961, he ranked second in the SUNYAC in RBI and stolen bases while competing on the Cardinals’ baseball team.

Wayne retired following a successful career as a teacher in the Schodack School District in 1997, and he currently resides in Castleton, N.Y., with his wife of 53 years, Arlene, who is a 1964 SUNY Plattsburgh graduate. He has two grown daughters, Lori Ann and Beth Jean.Â
Wayne still stays active, running marathons while playing basketball and golf. Also an avid traveler, Lashway has traveled to Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Canada, Mexico and several U.S. states.

“My favorite Plattsburgh State sports moment was this one game at Oneonta in 1961-62 when I scored the last 12 points of the game.”
