In 1986, D. Andrew “Andy” Hastings left a lasting impression on Plattsburgh State athletics. He became the first individual national champion in any sport by capturing the 800-meter run at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track Championships.

Along with a national title, Hastings was selected as an All-American. That same season, he won the second of his two SUNYAC titles for the outdoor 800-meter run. He ended his collegiate career with three 800-meter run conference titles.

Hastings then earned the 1986 Plattsburgh State Student-Athlete of the Year and the Plattsburgh State Student Association Outstanding Service Award.

Where are they now?
Hastings became a health and physical education teacher while also coaching high school cross country and track and field.
