Gil played three sports as a student-athlete. In basketball, he played more than 40 games during a three-year career while accumulating 431 points. He also competed in both soccer and baseball. Gil’s talents as a baseball pitcher earned him professional contract offers.
After his playing time ended, he became a North Country youth commission coach and program director for many years. He also spent time as a high school basketball official for more than two decades.
Gil also co-founded the Cardinal Booster Club and he became the first alumnus selected to serve on the college’s Intercollegiate Athletic Board. All these duties coincided with his 34-year career as a teacher and educational administrator. He served as a board member and director of varied North Country human service agencies.
