Hall of Fame
Patrick Shaughnessy excelled as a two-sport student-athlete for the Cardinals in baseball and men’s soccer, earning numerous accolades while helping both programs achieve success.
On the baseball diamond, Shaughnessy was a three-time All-SUNYAC honoree, an ABCA Second-Team All-New York Region honoree, a First-Team All-ECAC Upstate selection, and an ABCA New York Region Gold Glove recipient. He holds the program’s career record in assists (382) and is tied for second in home runs (11).
On the soccer pitch, the Plattsburgh, N.Y., native was also a three-time All-SUNYAC selection, an NSCAA First-Team All-Region honoree, and an ECAC Upstate First-Team All-Star in 2011. He helped lead Plattsburgh State to a SUNYAC Championship in 2010 and earned SUNYAC All-Tournament Team honors in 2010 and 2011. Shaughnessy was selected to the SUNYAC All-Decade Team in both baseball and men’s soccer. He was also recognized as a CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team selection, an NSCAA Third-Team Scholar All-American, and an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient.
He was the recipient of the Plattsburgh State Male Senior Achievement Award, Richard D. Semmler Award, and SUNY Plattsburgh Cardinal Athletics Provost’s Award. Shaughnessy concluded his career tied for fifth in men’s soccer history in career goals (42).

Where are they now:
Patrick is currently a middle school teacher at Stafford Middle School, where he teaches physical education as well as swim to students in grades sixth through eighth. He currently resides in Plattsburgh, N.Y., with his wife, Marianne, and his three children, Emma, nine, Benjamin, seven, and Ryan, four.
In terms of professional accomplishments, Patrick is “proud that we were able to start a youth sports program in the city of Plattsburgh to help out after the recreation department was cut. EMBERY Athletics is a youth sports program that offers activities for kids from kindergarten to sixth grade. To date, we have offered soccer (both outdoor and indoor), basketball, baseball, and softball.” His greatest accomplishment in his personal life is the life that Marianne and he have created alongside their three children.
