Sydney is the communications coordinator for the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST), based in Lake Placid, New York. ROOST connects locals, visitors, and the global community to elevate and advocate for the Adirondack region through its destination marketing and management initiatives. Sydney works closely with local and national media to ensure that the public is informed, and to help journalists create stories about the Adirondacks for regional, national, and international publications.
In addition to her work with ROOST, Sydney has remained active in hockey by officiating for the past six seasons. She also works part-time as a cycling guide.
Sydney lives with her husband, Chris, in Saranac Lake, N.Y. The pair met in college and both pursued degrees in Expeditionary Studies.
Sydney considers her greatest personal accomplishment to be paddling the 740-mile Northern Forest Canoe Trail with her mother as part of her master’s thesis in Expeditionary Studies. This canoe trail is the longest inland water trail in the U.S., featuring 23 rivers and streams, 59 lakes and ponds, and 65 portages. The trail follows traditional travel routes used by Native Americans and settlers, from Old Forge, N.Y., to Fort Kent, Maine.
Professionally, she is proud to have assisted journalists with hundreds of stories about the Adirondack region published in several major outlets including the Globe and Mail, National Post, Conde Nast Traveler, National Geographic, Forbes, and Travel & Leisure.
Favorite Plattsburgh State Sports Moment:
“During my senior year, I was fortunate to be a part of the 2014 National Championship team that won 9-2 against Norwich on our home ice. However, the semi-final was more of a nail-biter than the National Championship game. The score was 0-0 in overtime when my childhood teammate, Allison Era, scored as a defenseman. I sprinted across the ice from my position as a goalie to tackle her in celebration, making it an unforgettable moment.”
