The Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of First Year Experience and Retention Efforts at the time of induction, Peter Luguri began his professional career at Plattsburgh State in 1979 when he became director of the Upward Bound program.  He also worked as assistant provost, senior student affairs officer and taught classes, but he’s probably best known in Plattsburgh circles as being the athletics director for 17 years during two different stints (1987-97 and 1998-2004).

During his tenure operating the athletics department, Luguri saw the Cardinals claim two NCAA Division III men's ice hockey titles and one NCAA Regional as well as Eastern College Athletic Conference, State University of New York Athletic Conference and New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association championships in men's/women's soccer, men's/women's cross country and men's basketball.

Luguri was the SUNYAC President in 1994-95 and 2002-03, the Chair of the Men's Sports Committee in 1991-92 and 1992-93, and the Chair of the Finance Committee in 1993-94.  He was also a member of the Chancellor's SUNY-Wide Task Force on Student Life in 1993-94.

In May, he received the Dr. Patrick R. Damore Distinguished Service Award from SUNYAC for his tireless efforts working within the conference structure.

In addition, Plattsburgh saw the addition of women's hockey, softball and the reintroduction of baseball to the intercollegiate sports offerings under Luguri’s watch.  He also played an integral part installing a state-of-the-art turf playing surface at the Field House Soccer/Lacrosse Complex and building the Fitness Center in Memorial Hall.

Luguri graduated in 1973 with a bachelor of arts degree in secondary education English and earned a master of science in education six years later.  He competed on the Cardinal football, wrestling and baseball teams.
