Ashley (Marshall) Lamica established herself as one of the most dominant pitchers in Plattsburgh State softball history, helping lead the Cardinals to a SUNYAC Championship and NCAA Regional Title in 2012.
The standout pitcher earned NFCA Third-Team All-America honors in 2012 and was a four-time NFCA All-Region selection. The Malone, N.Y., native was a two-time SUNYAC Pitcher of the Year, four-time All-SUNYAC selection, and four-time SUNYAC All-Tournament Team honoree, earning both SUNYAC Tournament MVP and NCAA Regional Tournament MVP during the Cardinals' NCAA Regional Title run in 2012.
She also earned three ECAC Upstate All-Star selections, CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team and Academic All-District honors, was named to the SUNYAC All-Decade Team, and received the Plattsburgh State Female Senior Achievement Award. Lamica concluded her career as the program's all-time leader in strikeouts (996), which ranks 21st in NCAA Division III history, ERA (1.50), winning percentage (.776), wins (83), shutouts (26), and complete games (77).

Where are they now:
Ashley is currently a first-grade teacher at Davis Elementary School in Malone, N.Y., and also serves as the junior varsity softball coach and modified volleyball coach. Over the past 12 years, she has coached volleyball, basketball, and softball at various levels.
She currently resides in Malone, N.Y., where she grew up, with her husband, Ryan, and their two children, Maddox, 9, and Bria, 5. They have been together since ninth grade, starting their relationship in 2006, before getting married in 2015.
Professionally, her greatest accomplishment is how she continues to learn and grow as both a teacher and a coach. Ashley says: “I don’t think there is ever a point when you are completely finished learning how to be better at either role. As a teacher, one of the most rewarding moments is seeing a student have that ‘ah-ha’ moment when something they have been working hard on finally makes sense. As a coach, it is incredibly rewarding to watch athletes gain confidence and grow into leaders, both on and off the field or court. Knowing that I have played even a small role in helping young people learn, grow, and become more confident in themselves is something I am very proud of.” In her personal life, she is most proud of the life Ryan and her have created together. “We have two wonderful children who are kind, smart, and happy, and watching them grow into their own personalities is one of my greatest joys and accomplishments,” said Ashley.
Favorite Plattsburgh State Sports Moment:
“So many of my favorite memories come from playing softball at Plattsburgh State, so it is difficult to choose just one. If I had to pick, my favorite would be beating Cortland to win the SUNYAC Championship in 2012, then going on to win Regionals and earning a trip to the College World Series.”
