SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior
Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) of the Plattsburgh State men's track and field team has been selected as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the period ending Apr. 26, as announced Monday by the conference office. This is his sixth career honor and his first outdoor weekly honor of the season. As a team, the Cardinals have now earned four weekly honors, but this is the team's first weekly honor of the outdoor season.
Cypress delivered a record-setting performance for Plattsburgh State at the SLU Twilight Invite, helping lead the Cardinals to a first-place team finish with 231 points. Cypress broke the outdoor program record in the 100-meter dash with a personal-best time of 10.57 seconds, earning a second-place finish. He continued his standout day on the track with a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash, clocking 22.11 seconds.
The Cardinals return to action at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships on Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2, hosted by Cortland. Only athletes who have met the qualifying standards will travel to compete.
