SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Fifth-year
Jeremiah Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y. / East New York Family Academy) of the Plattsburgh State men's track and field team has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the period ending Apr. 12, as announced Monday by the conference office. This is his first career honor and the team's first since John O'Connor earned the honor in 2019.
Smith delivered a record-setting performance for the Plattsburgh State men's track and field team at the RPI Friday Night Under the Lights & Alumni Meet, breaking the outdoor program record in the long jump with a mark of 7.24 meters. His effort earned a second-place finish on Day One of competition and established a new standard in the event for the Cardinals. The standout performance helped anchor a strong weekend showing as Plattsburgh State placed fourth overall as a team. Smith is currently tied for 10th nationally in Division III in the long jump.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Apr. 18, traveling to Middlebury for the Middlebury Invitational.
