MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team competed at the Middlebury Invitational on Saturday, with multiple Cardinals posting All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying marks. First-year
Collin Pringle (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) placed first in the triple jump with a mark of 14.12 meters, earning an AARTFC qualifying standard.
Senior
Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall) paced the Cardinals in the 100-meter dash, finishing second in 10.83 seconds, an AARTFC qualifying mark. Next was first-year
Milo Pearsall (Cold Spring, N.Y. / Haldane), who recorded a personal-best time of 11.32 seconds for fifth place. Additional personal-best performances came from sophomore
Jack Scauri (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge) and first-year
Giel Cheverez-Soto (Amsterdam, N.Y. / Amsterdam), who placed ninth (11.66 seconds) and 10th (11.72 seconds), respectively.
In the 200-meter dash, sophomore
Brian Shannon (Goshen, N.Y. / Goshen) led the way with a personal-best time of 23.72 seconds, placing sixth. Cheverez-Soto followed in seventh at 23.77 seconds.
Sophomore
Thomas Clark (Stone Ridge, N.Y. / Rondout Valley) recorded the top Plattsburgh finish in the 110-meter hurdles, placing fourth in 15.41 seconds, an AARTFC qualifying mark. First-year
Max Page (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) finished sixth with a personal-best time of 15.83 seconds, while first-year
Michael Slominski (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) placed ninth in a personal-best 16.74 seconds.
Page and Slominski also competed in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing eighth (1:03.90) and ninth (1:05.15), respectively.
Sophomore
Ethan Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall) earned a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash, clocking 50.95 seconds. Graduate student
Faris Webber (Arlington, Va. / Washington Liberty) placed 11th, recording a personal-best time of 55.71 seconds.
In the distance events, first-years
Michael Ayala (New Paltz, N.Y. / New Paltz) and
Griffin Leary (Pearl River, N.Y. / Clarkstown South) competed in the 800-meter run. Ayala led the way in 14th place with a time of 2:08.70, while Leary recorded a personal-best time of 2:18.12 to finish 18th.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the Cardinals saw multiple strong performances, led by junior
Zander Brown (Wappingers Falls, N.Y. / Roy C. Ketcham), who placed first with a personal-best time of 10:24.63. Junior
Nate Alexander (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus) followed in second (10:37.46), and first-year
Bryton Mandigo (Hartford, N.Y. / Hartford) finished third (10:39.00).
First-year
Brennan Muecke (Bemus Point, N.Y. / Maple Grove) was the lone Cardinal in the 5,000-meter run, placing seventh in 17:58.73.
The 4x100-meter relay team of C. Cypress, E. Cypress, Pearsall, and Cheverez-Soto placed second in 42.36 seconds, recording an AARFTC qualifying time. The Cardinals also competed in the 4x400-meter relay with Ayala, Brown, Leary, and Mandigo, finishing fifth in 3:54.63.
In the field events, sophomore
Nathan Webber (Cadyville, N.Y. / Saranac) placed first in the discus throw with a personal-best mark of 45.99 meters, setting a new facility record and earning an AARTFC qualifying mark.
First-year
Caleb Lewis (New City, N.Y.) placed fourth with a throw of 39.44 meters, while F. Webber finished fifth with a personal-best mark of 38.27 meters. Sophomore
Zach Stevens (Queensbury, N.Y. / Glens Falls) also recorded a personal-best throw of 33.11 meters.
Fifth-year
Jeremiah Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y. / East New York Family Academy) led the way in the long jump with a first-place finish, leaping 6.81 meters, an AARTFC qualifying mark. Junior
Tyler Baker (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) followed in third with a mark of 6.30 meters. Junior
Sampson Lin (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East) placed sixth (5.84 meters), and first-year
Rashid Okine (Schenectady, N.Y. / Schenectady) finished seventh (5.68 meters).
N. Webber followed his discus performance with a second-place finish in the hammer throw, tossing 42.88 meters. Stevens placed third with a personal-best throw of 41.16 meters, and Lewis finished fourth with a personal-best mark of 39.07 meters.
In the javelin, senior
De'Andre Watson (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) placed eighth with a mark of 35.28 meters. First-year
Roanan Ross (Memphis, N.Y. / Jordan Elbridge) led the Cardinals in the shot put, finishing ninth with a throw of 11.72 meters.
The Cardinals return to action on Friday, Apr. 24, traveling to St. Lawrence for the SLU Twilight Invite.
