Four Cardinals Selected to CSC Academic All-District Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team

2025-26 Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Senior Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall), sophomore Ethan Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall), senior Samuel Van Auken (Greenville, N.Y. / Greenville), and graduate student Faris Webber (Arlington, Va. / Washington Liberty) of the Plattsburgh State men's track and field team were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, the organization announced Tuesday.

The 2025-26 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Cross Country/Track & Field teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes cross country/track & field honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.

To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. Track and field nominees must rank among the top 50 in their region in an individual event, while cross country nominees must record a top-50 individual finish at their NCAA Regional Championship meet.

C. Cypress, a nursing major with a 3.74 cumulative GPA, ranked in the top 50 in the Mideast Region in six events during the track and field season. He earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors in five events during the 2025-26 season. Indoors, he received All-Region recognition in the 60-, 200-, and 400-meter dashes, with top regional finishes of fifth in the 60- and 200-meter dashes and eighth in the 400-meter dash. He earned bronze in the 60-meter dash and silver in the 200-meter dash at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships before adding a bronze medal in the 200-meter dash at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Indoor Championships. Outdoors, he earned All-Region honors in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, highlighted by a program-record time of 10.57 seconds in the 100-meter dash at the SLU Twilight Invite. His top outdoor regional ranking was second in the 100-meter dash, followed by fifth in the 200-meter dash and 35th in the 400-meter dash. He closed the season with a silver medal in the 200-meter dash and a bronze medal in the 100-meter dash at the SUNYAC Outdoor Championships.

E. Cypress, a biomedical sciences major with a 4.00 cumulative GPA, ranked in the top 50 in the Mideast Region in four events during the track and field season. Indoors, he ranked 34th in the 200-meter dash, 36th in the 400-meter dash, and 46th in the 60-meter dash, with his top indoor regional ranking coming in the 200-meter dash. Outdoors, he ranked 39th in the 400-meter dash, which stood as his top outdoor regional ranking. He was also recognized for his academic excellence, earning the SUNYAC Elite 20 Award at both the SUNYAC Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Van Auken, an accounting major with a 3.77 cumulative GPA, ranked in the top 50 in the Mideast Region in three distance events during the track and field season. Indoors, he ranked 22nd in the 5,000-meter run and 50th in the 3,000-meter run, with his top indoor regional ranking coming in the 5,000-meter run. He was named Co-Rookie of the Meet at the SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, where he captured the conference title in the 3,000-meter run. Outdoors, he ranked 30th in the 10,000-meter run, which stood as his top outdoor regional ranking.

Webber, a supply chain and business administration major with a 4.00 cumulative GPA and a 3.90 graduate GPA, ranked in the top 50 in the Mideast Region in 10 events during the track and field season. Indoors, he ranked 11th in the heptathlon, 22nd in the long jump, 28th in the pole vault, and 37th in the high jump, with his top indoor regional ranking coming in the heptathlon. He earned bronze in the heptathlon at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships. Outdoors, he ranked seventh in the decathlon, 33rd in the pole vault, 34th in the javelin, 36th in the discus, 38th in the shot put, and 41st in the high jump, with his top outdoor regional ranking coming in the decathlon. He earned the first All-Region honor of his career in the decathlon and earned a silver medal with a second-place finish at the SUNYAC Outdoor Championships.
