Pringle Records AARTFC Qualifying Mark as Men’s Track and Field Places First at SLU Twilight Invite

CANTON, N.Y. – First-year Collin Pringle (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) placed first in the triple jump with an All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying mark of 13.93 meters as the Plattsburgh State men's track and field team placed first overall, scoring 231 points, at the SLU Twilight Invite.

In the 100-meter dash preliminaries, senior Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall), first-year Milo Pearsall (Cold Spring, N.Y. / Haldane), junior Ryan Beltran (Bronx, N.Y. / Cardinal Hayes), and sophomore Brian Shannon (Goshen, N.Y. / Goshen) placed first (10.66 seconds), third (11.04 seconds), fifth (11.28 seconds), and seventh (11.32 seconds), respectively, to qualify for the finals. Another highlight came from sophomore Jack Scauri (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge), who finished 11th in 11.44 seconds with a new personal best.

In the 100-meter dash finals, C. Cypress led the way with a personal-best and an AARTFC qualifying time of 10.57 seconds, placing second and setting a new outdoor program record. Pearsall followed him in third with an AARTFC qualifying time of 10.95 seconds, while Beltran placed fifth in 11.19 seconds, a new personal best, and Shannon finished seventh in 11.28 seconds, also a personal best.

C. Cypress continued his strong day in the 200-meter dash, placing first with a time of 22.11 seconds. Pearsall followed with a fourth-place finish in 23.60 seconds, while Scauri recorded another personal best, placing 10th in 24.24 seconds. Another highlight came from sophomore Hassani St. John (Trinidad and Tobago), who posted a personal-best time of 25.01 seconds to finish 15th.

In the hurdle events, sophomore Thomas Clark (Stone Ridge, N.Y. / Rondout Valley) placed first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.99 seconds. First-year Max Page (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) finished third in 15.70 seconds, a personal best, while classmate Michael Slominski (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) placed sixth in 16.44 seconds, also a personal best.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Page continued his strong showing, placing second with a personal-best time of 1:01.35, followed by Slominski in fourth in 1:05.76.

Sophomore Ethan Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall) paced the Cardinals in the 400-meter dash, finishing first in 50.70 seconds. First-year Giel Cheverez-Soto (Amsterdam, N.Y. / Amsterdam) placed fifth in 54.57 seconds, a personal best, while first-year Michael Ayala (New Paltz, N.Y. / New Paltz) and St. John finished back-to-back in seventh (56.34 seconds) and eighth (56.82 seconds), respectively.

First-year Bryton Mandigo (Hartford, N.Y. / Hartford) was the lone Cardinal in the 800-meter run, placing sixth with a personal-best time of 2:07.73. First-year Brennan Muecke (Bemus Point, N.Y. / Maple Grove) was the only runner for Plattsburgh in the 5,000-meter run, placing seventh in 17:12.45.

Junior Zander Brown (Wappingers Falls, N.Y. / Roy C. Ketcham) led the way in the 1,500-meter run, placing first with a personal-best time of 4:17.97. Senior Jack Natali Jr. (Clayton, N.Y. / Thousand Islands) placed fourth (4:30.54, personal best), junior Nate Alexander (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus) finished fifth (4:36.92, personal best), and first-year Griffin Leary (Pearl River, N.Y. / Clarkstown South) rounded out the Cardinal finishers in sixth with a personal-best time of 4:47.56.
 
Sophomore Brody Serfass (Endwell, N.Y. / Maine Endwell) placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:44.71.

In relay action, the Cardinals earned a fourth-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay with the squad of senior De'Andre Watson (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) and sophomores Manny Olivier (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Glen Cove), Zach Stevens (Queensbury, N.Y. / Glens Falls), and Nathan Webber (Cadyville, N.Y. / Saranac), timing in at 51.93 seconds.

In the field events, the Cardinals recorded first-place finishes in both the long jump and triple jump. C. Cypress won the long jump with a mark of 6.12 meters, while Pringle captured the triple jump. Junior Tyler Baker (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) placed second in the long jump with a leap of 6.11 meters. The Cardinals claimed the next three spots, as junior Sampson Lin (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East) placed third (5.77 meters), graduate student Faris Webber (Arlington, Va. / Washington Liberty) finished fourth (5.43 meters), and junior Jacai Sanders (Rochester, N.Y. / East) rounded out the Plattsburgh finishers in fifth (5.24 meters).

In the triple jump, Plattsburgh swept the top three spots, with Watson placing second with a personal-best mark of 12.35 meters and first-year Rashid Okine (Schenectady, N.Y. / Schenectady) finishing third with a jump of 10.06 meters.

N. Webber and Stevens led the way in the hammer throw, placing first and second, respectively. N. Webber recorded a throw of 43.16 meters, while Stevens followed with 39.28 meters. First-year Caleb Lewis (New City, N.Y.) placed fourth with a throw of 38.44 meters, and first-year Roanan Ross (Memphis, N.Y. / Jordan Eldridge) finished eighth with a personal-best throw of 29.54 meters.

The Cardinals also had a strong showing in the shot put, as N. Webber earned another first-place finish with a throw of 11.25 meters. Olivier followed in second with a throw of 11.10 meters, and Ross placed fourth with a mark of 10.27 meters.

N. Webber completed his standout performance in the field with a first-place throw of 41.95 meters in the discus throw. Lewis placed fifth (33.97 meters), followed by Stevens in sixth (32.62 meters) and Oliver in ninth (31.41 meters).

Watson was the lone Cardinal in the javelin, placing second with a personal-best throw of 38.25 meters, while F. Webber was the only athlete in the pole vault, clearing 3.05 meters to place first.

The Cardinals return to action at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships on Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2, hosted by Cortland. Only athletes who have met the qualifying standards will travel to compete.
