NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team is set to compete at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, Mar. 6, and Saturday, Mar. 7, at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS: The Cardinals will bring eight student-athletes to the meet this weekend, led by junior
Isaiah Ritter (Peekskill, N.Y. / Peekskill), who holds the highest seed on the team at fifth in the long jump with his program-record leap of 7.20 meters.
Senior
Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall) will compete in both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash and is coming off a two-medal performance at the SUNYAC Championship. He earned bronze in the 60-meter dash and followed with silver in the 200-meter dash. Cypress's top seed comes in the 200-meter dash, where he is ranked seventh with a time of 21.65 seconds, while he enters the 60-meter dash as the 12th seed at 6.89 seconds.
Senior
Samuel Van Auken (Greenville, N.Y. / Greenville) is in position to move into scoring contention as the 10th seed (15:05.33) in the 5,000-meter run. He scored points at the conference championships but just missed the podium with a fourth-place finish.
First-year
Collin Pringle (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) and sophomore
Thomas Clark (Stone Ridge, N.Y. / Rondout Valley) will also represent Plattsburgh. Pringle will compete in the high jump, where his career-best mark of 1.94 meters places him 22nd in the field. Clark enters the 60-meter hurdles as the 23rd seed with a personal-best time of 8.45 seconds.
Fifth-year
Jeremiah Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y. / East New York Family Academy) will also compete in the long jump, while senior
Jordan Williams (Bronx, N.Y. / Cardinal Hayes) is set to run the 60-meter dash.
Sophomore
Ethan Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall) is slated to compete in the 400-meter dash.
Clark, C. Cypress, Ritter, Smith, Van Auken, and Williams will compete on Friday, while E. Cypress and Pringle are scheduled for Saturday. Doors open at 10 a.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
WHAT'S NEXT: The NCAA Indoor Championships, hosted by Birmingham-Southern College, are set for Friday, Mar. 13, and Saturday, Mar. 14. Only the top competitors in each event across the country will qualify.
