BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Senior
Samuel Van Auken (Greenville, N.Y. / Greenville) won the 3,000-meter run and was named Co-Rookie of the Meet as the Plattsburgh State men's track and field team competed at Day Two of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships. Junior
Isaiah Ritter (Peekskill, N.Y. / Peekskill) also medaled for the Cardinals, breaking the indoor program record in the long jump for second place.
Plattsburgh finished tied for fourth place with 67 points, while Cortland won the meet with 235 points.
Sophomore
Ethan Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall) was awarded the prestigious SUNYAC Elite 20 award, an award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, which recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. E. Cypress is a biomedical sciences major with a 4.0 overall GPA.
Van Auken recorded a new personal best, finishing the 3,000-meter run in 8:48.88 for his first career gold medal. Ritter recorded a program record and an All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying jump of 7.20 meters for his second career medal.
First-year
Collin Pringle (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) cleared 1.90 meters, placing second in the high jump and earning his first career medal in his indoor championship debut.
Senior
Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall) finished with two medals on the evening, earning second in the 200-meter dash with an AARTFC qualifying mark of 22.03 seconds. C. Cypress placed third in the 60-meter dash, clocking a time of an AARTFC qualifying time of 6.97 seconds.
Graduate student
Faris Webber (Arlington, Va. / Washington Liberty) earned his second career medal with a third-place finish in the heptathlon, scoring 4,104 points.
Sophomore
Thomas Clark (Stone Ridge, N.Y. / Rondout Valley) had a solid outing in the 60-meter hurdles, recording a time of 8.56 seconds to score four points towards the team total.

Ryan Beltran (Bronx, N.Y. / Cardinal Hayes), first-year
Giel Cheverez-Soto (Amsterdam, N.Y. / Amsterdam), and first-year
Michael Ayala (New Paltz, N.Y. / New Paltz) placed fifth, timing in at 3:33.29 for four points towards the Cardinals' total.
Senior
Jordan Williams (Bronx, N.Y. / Cardinal Hayes) also competed in the 60-meter dash, placing sixth with an AARTFC qualifying time of 7.02 seconds.
First-year
Michael Slominski (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) also competed in the heptathlon, placing sixth with 3,435 points.
Van Auken secured All-SUNYAC First Team honors in the 3,000-meter run with his performance. Ritter, Pringle, and C. Cypress each earned All-SUNYAC Second Team recognition, with Ritter honored in the long jump, Pringle in the high jump, and C. Cypress in the 200-meter dash.
C. Cypress also picked up All-SUNYAC Third Team honors in the 60-meter dash, while F. Webber earned Third Team recognition in the heptathlon.
The Cardinals are next in action at the AARTFC Championships, which will occur on Mar. 6 and 7 at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory.
