2024-25 Track & Field/Cross Country Teams
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Track & Field Teams were released on Tuesday, as five Plattsburgh State track & field student-athletes earned honors. Junior
Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) and seniors
Isaiah Martens-Collins (London, Ontario/Penticton) and
Faris Webber (Arlington, Va./Washington Liberty) of the men's team earned selections, while sophomore
Taygin Jump (Coupeville, Wash./Coupeville) and junior
Grace Yarkosky (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) also earned distinctions. Cypress and Yarkosky were advanced to the All-America ballot, where the women's team will be released on July 15 and the men's on July 16.
Cypress and Webber each repeat on the Academic All-District team, while Jump, Martens-Collins, and Yarkosky were first-time honorees.
To be eligible for this honor, individuals must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and be a sophomore academically and athletically, while also placing in the top 50 in their region in a single event.
Cypress, a junior nursing major, was a United States Track & Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mideast All-Region honoree in both the indoor and outdoor seasons, and picked up three medals across both seasons at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships, including a title in the 60-meter dash. He also added third-place finishes in the 200-meter and 100-meter dashes in the outdoor season. In the 60-meter dash, he finished third in the Mideast Region and 38
th nationally, earning All-Region honors in that event. Additionally, in the 100-meter dash, he finished fourth in the region, also earning All-Region honors. Over the 2024-25 campaign, he set four program records, including the 200-meter dash marks in both indoor (22.03) and outdoor (21.51), as well as the 60-meter dash (6.86) and the 55-meter dash (6.42).
Jump, a sophomore Environmental Planning & Management/Geology major, saw her best ranking in the Mideast region in the weight throw, where she was 14
th in the Mideast region at 13.58 meters (44'6.75"). She also ranked 18
th in the Mideast region in the javelin, with her season best throw of 31.60 meters (103'8"). At the outdoor SUNYAC Championships, Jump finished sixth in the javelin, scoring three points for her team.
Martens-Collins, a senior psychology major, was the SUNYAC Champion in the javelin throw and ranked tenth in the Mideast Region with their season best throw of 52.94 meters. At the SUNYAC Championship, they won the SUNYAC crown with a throw of 52.42 meters, as they were the only student-athlete with two throws over 50 meters at the championship.
Webber, a senior Supply Chain Management and Business Administration, had his season highlighted by his second-place finish at the Outdoor SUNYAC Championships in the decathlon. In the Mideast Region, his score of 5,207 that he achieved at the championships was good for 11
th amongst his peers. Webber also scored four points for Plattsburgh at the Indoor SUNYAC Championships, placing fifth in the heptathlon. Webber was also recognized for his academics, as he was named the SUNYAC Elite 20 award winner at both championships, as the award recognizes the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA amongst their peers.
Yarkosky, a junior fitness & wellness leadership major, was also a USTFCCA Mideast All-Region honoree in both the indoor and outdoor seasons, achieving the honor in the 400-meter dash event in both campaigns. She placed third at the Indoor SUNYAC Championships in the 400-meter event, also anchoring the 4x400-meter relay team that won the conference title. At the outdoor championships, Yarkosky once again anchored the 4x400 team that was victorious in their event, but the junior won her second individual SUNYAC Championship in the 400-meter dash this time, defeating her counterparts with a time of 57.74 seconds. Her season-best indoor time was 58.47 seconds, which was fourth in the Mideast Region, and her career-best mark of 57.13 seconds ranked fifth in the region during the outdoor season.
