Cypress Wins 60-Meter Dash and Ties Program Record in 200-Meter Dash as Men's Track & Field Competes at the DIII Elite Meet

ROCHESTER, N.Y – Junior Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) won the 60-meter dash and tied his school record in the 200-meter dash on Saturday as men's track and field competed in the DIII Elite Meet hosted by Nazareth College. Cypress finished second in the 200-meter dash, earning All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) marks in each race.

Cypress won the 60-meter dash with his time of 6.95 seconds, besting his time of 6.96 on Friday. His second-place finish in the 200-meter dash was bested only by Sam Ahern of Union who finished at 21.93 seconds. Sophomore Justin Rushia (Warrensburg, N.Y./Warrensburg) also raced in the 200-meter race, posting a time of 23.78 seconds.

The Cardinals had four runners in the 400-meter dash, as first-year student Ethan Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) finished with the best time, as his 52.53 second mark placed him 18th. Sophomore Ryan Beltran (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) was 26th at 53.22 seconds, while first-year student Joshua Gaboriault (Saranac, N.Y./Saranac) was 32nd with his time of 53.22 seconds. First-year student Jack Gregory (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) also raced in the event and placed 41st with his time of 53.51 seconds.

Senior Justin Kumrow (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) set a new personal best mark with his 12th place finish in the 800-meter run at 1:59.52. Sophomore Matthew DeJulio (Wynantskill, N.Y./Averill Park) was 21st in the same event, clocking in with a time of 2:02.46, a new personal record.

Sophomore Zander Brown (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) competed in the mile run and finished 24th with a time of 4:34.78, another personal best time.

In the high jump, first-year student Jackson Hooper (Elizabethtown, N.Y./Boquet Valley) was seventh, clearing 1.82 meters, while sophomore Tyler Baker (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) was 22nd, clearing 1.72 meters.

The Cardinals will next compete on Friday, Feb. 21 at 4 p.m. in the SLU Open.
