PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Coming off a five-win season in which the Cardinals finished seventh and missed the conference playoffs, the team entered the year ranked sixth in the preseason poll. Under the guidance of fourth-year head coach
Whitney Frary, along with assistant coaches
Claire Said and
Sarah Erno, Plattsburgh State defied expectations, securing the No. 2 seed and earning a first-round bye into the SUNYAC semifinals. The Cardinals went on to defeat Fredonia in the semifinals and advanced to the SUNYAC Championship, finishing the season with a 10-7-2 overall record and a 6-1-2 mark in conference play. Plattsburgh lost just one conference game and allowed only two goals in SUNYAC action.
Much of the team's success can be attributed to the leadership and strategic approach of the coaching staff. The Cardinals embraced an underdog mentality throughout the season and developed a culture of growth and resilience. The staff also played a pivotal role in mentoring six SUNYAC All-Conference honorees, all of whom were first-time recipients, either recruited newcomers or returning players who flourished under the program's development system.
