Men's Track and Field Ties for 13th Out of 43 Teams at AARTFC Indoor Championships; Posts Program-Best Finish

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team posted its best finish in the three-year history of the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Indoor Championships on Saturday following the second and final day of the meet, tying for 13th out of 43 teams with 16 points. The 2020 AARTFC Indoor Championships were hosted by Nazareth College.
 
The highlight of the Cardinals' meet on Saturday came when their 4x200-meter relay team comprised entirely of freshmen finished second in the event and came within striking distance of the program record in the event (1:29.85). Brendyn Marrero (Rock Tavern, N.Y./Washingtonville), Cameron Aviles (Campbell Hall, N.Y./Washingtonville), Brexton Montville (Cadyville, N.Y./Saranac) and Jared Davidson (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) combined for a time of 1:30.21, finishing ahead of Widener University for second place by .07 seconds.
 
Davidson took sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.63, while Marrero finished eighth in the 60-meter dash final (7.17) and 16th in the 200-meter dash (23.06). Senior Andrew Horan (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) covered the mile run in an eighth-place time of 4:21.71.
 
Senior Anthony Ciccarelli (Smithtown, N.Y./Commack) ended up finishing sixth in the heptathlon, posting a score of 4,360 points. In Saturday's component events of the heptathlon, he placed third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.91), seventh in the pole vault (3.63 meters – 11' 10.75") and seventh in the 1,000-meter run (2:57.49).
 
Rowan University captured the team title with 115 points, followed by SUNY Cortland (second, 64) and Ithaca College (third, 53).

Plattsburgh State begins its outdoor season on Saturday, March 28, when it competes at the Saints Spring Breaker Open hosted by St. Lawrence University.
