Men's Track and Field Competes at Pioneer Open, Bomber Invitational

Pioneer Open Meet Results

UTICA, N.Y. and ITHACA, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team placed sixth out of 13 teams at the Pioneer Open hosted by Utica College on Saturday, while senior Anthony Ciccarelli (Smithtown, N.Y./Commack) stands fourth out of eight competitors following day one of the heptathlon at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational.
 
At the Pioneer Open, Plattsburgh State earned 35 points to finish sixth in the final team standings. The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute won the team title with 133 points, while host Utica placed second with 97 points.
 
Freshman Jared Davidson (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) clocked an All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying mark of 7.12 in the 60-meter dash, finishing second in the event at the Pioneer Open.
 
Freshman Brexton Montville (Cadyville, N.Y./Saranac) achieved State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) qualification in both the 200-meter dash (23.63) and the 60-meter dash (7.41), while freshman Brendyn Marrero (Rock Tavern, N.Y./Washingtonville) qualified for SUNYACs in the 60-meter dash (7.23) and the 200-meter dash (23.51). Marrero ended up finishing fifth in the 60-meter dash and sixth in the 200-meter dash. Freshman Cameron Aviles (Campbell Hall, N.Y./Washingtonville) also qualified for the SUNYAC Indoor Championships in the 200-meter dash, charting an eight-place time of 23.57.
 
Plattsburgh State enjoyed a strong showing in the 800-meter run, with freshman Ryan Worobey (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) finishing fifth (2:04.44), junior Joseph Chianese (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) placing sixth (2:04.44) and freshman Liam Gildea (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) taking seventh (2:05.82).
 
In the mile, senior Andrew Horan (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) placed seventh (4:38.04), while freshman Nicholas Boncore (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) took eighth (4:38.44).
 
Sophomore Jacob Leaper (Scotia Glenville, N.Y./Scotia Glenville) qualified for finals in the 60-meter hurdles, placing seventh with a time of 9.71.
 
Finally, the 4x400-meter relay team of Marrero, Aviles, Montville and Horan charted a season-best time of 3:33.70 to place fourth in the event.

In the heptathlon events at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational, Ciccarelli took second in the 60-meter dash (7.52), third in the shot put (10.49 meters – 34' 5"), fifth in the long jump (5.83 meters – 19' 1.5") and sixth in the high jump (1.72 meters – 5' 7.75").
 
Ciccarelli will complete the heptathlon tomorrow at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational beginning at 10 a.m., as he will compete in the 60-meter hurdles, the pole vault and the 1,000-meter run.
