BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Led by a pair of top-five finishes by Amanda and Ashley Gadway in the throwing circle, the Plattsburgh State women's indoor track and field team kicked off its 2013-14 campaign at the Brockport Early Season Invitational on Saturday.
Amanda Gadway was second only to Brockport's Ann Millikin in the 20-lb. weight throw as she put forth a heave of 14.45 meters. Ashley Gadway made a fifth-place toss of 10.76 meters in the shot put.
Taking part in their first collegiate track and field meet, Waheson Lazore and Katie Tatro each made a lead of 1.43 meters in the high jump. Lazore finished eighth while Tatro checked in at 11
th place.
Another freshman in Taylor Baynham led the way for the Cardinals in the long jump. Her distance of 4.61 meters was good for 11
th place and was tops among a group of six Plattsburgh State student-athletes who competed in the event.
Caitilin McGhean represented Plattsburgh State in the pole vault, clearing a distance of 2.25 meters in her first time competing at a college meet. She finished in 20
th place.
In the track events, Bryanna Mustapich turned in an eighth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, producing a time of 10.69 seconds.
Baynham took to the lanes in the 300-meter dash, and produced a seventh-place finish in a time of 44.81 seconds. That time was a little over two seconds slower than the 13-year-old school record. Rayanne Canet (19
th, 46.89) was the other Plattsburgh State representative in that event.
Joining Mustapich in the 13-woman field of the 500-meter dash was freshman Rebecca Muschio who placed sixth in a time of 1:26.3. Mustapich was 10
th, crossing the finish line in 1:29.32.
The 4x200-meter relay group of Tatro, Lauren Carlino, Caroline Cuda and Eunice Osei-Boakye placed 10
th in a time of 1:57.23.
A freshman-laden foursome of Baynham, Canet, Muschio and Mustapich put forth a sixth-place effort in the 4x400-meter relay. Their collective time of 4:30.62 beat out five other teams.
Over one month will go by before the Cardinals hit the lanes again. On Saturday, January 18, Plattsburgh State will head to Canton, N.Y., to take part in the St. Lawrence Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
