Women’s Track and Field Opens Competition at RPI Under the Lights & Alumni Meet

TROY, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's track and field team competed at the RPI Friday Night Under the Lights & Alumni Meet on Friday evening. After Day One, the Cardinals sit in sixth place with 15 points.

On the track, the seeded 200-meter dash opened the running events, where senior Grace Yarkosky (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon) earned a fifth-place finish with a personal-best time of 25.24 seconds.

The first distance event of the night, the steeplechase, saw sophomore Ellie LeRoy (Malone, N.Y. / Franklin Academy) place fourth with a personal-best time of 12:08.84. Junior Grace Estus (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) also recorded a personal best in the 1,500-meter run, finishing 17th in 4:55.40.

The 10,000-meter run capped the running events, where junior Lillian Moran (Albany, N.Y. / Colonie Central) narrowly missed out on scoring with a ninth-place finish in 42:47.49.

In the field events, junior Taygin Jump (Coupeville, Wash. / Coupeville) placed third in the javelin with a throw of 30.99 meters. She followed that performance with a personal-best mark of 28.52 meters in the discus, finishing 20th.

In the long jump, senior Marissa LeDuc (Saranac, N.Y. / Saranac) led the Cardinals with an 11th-place finish (4.98 meters). First-year Madalyn Wynnik (Dannemora, N.Y. / Saranac) followed closely behind, recording a personal-best jump of 4.91 meters to place 13th.

The Cardinals will resume competition at the RPI Friday Night Under the Lights & Alumni Meet on Saturday, Apr. 11, at Harkness Field, with events beginning at 11 a.m.
