PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation has announced the hiring of Brittany Marshall to the Cardinals' softball coaching staff as an assistant coach ahead of the 2027 season.

Marshall returns to Plattsburgh State after previously serving as an assistant coach with the Cardinals during the 2015-16 season. A former standout two-sport student-athlete at Plattsburgh State, Marshall brings collegiate playing experience, coaching experience and a strong background in athlete development to the Cardinals' program.

Marshall was recently announced as a member of the Plattsburgh State Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2026, recognizing her decorated career as a two-sport student-athlete for the Cardinals in softball and women's basketball.

"I'm incredibly proud and excited to welcome Brittany to the Plattsburgh State Softball coaching staff as an assistant," said Plattsburgh State head softball coach Brad Marshall. "Her experience as a former Cardinal student-athlete, along with her coaching experience over the past ten years at the college, high school, and travel ball levels will bring so much to this program. She has a passion for the game, exceptional work ethic, and an energy that is just contagious. Her goal will be to create an environment of success for every member of the program. We have a very similar coaching philosophy, so she was a natural choice for this position. I know she will work hard to cultivate a positive culture and will be focused on player growth and development, as she knows first-hand how key those elements are to a successful program."

Marshall enjoyed a standout four-year career on the softball diamond, earning three All-SUNYAC selections and First-Team All-Region honors. She was named the 2012 SUNYAC Rookie of the Year and helped lead the Cardinals to the 2012 SUNYAC Championship and an NCAA Division III College World Series appearance. Marshall ranks among the top five in program history in career runs scored, hits, stolen bases and defensive assists.

Marshall was equally accomplished on the basketball court, earning two First-Team All-SUNYAC selections and serving as a team captain for two seasons. She helped guide the Cardinals to the 2014 SUNYAC regular-season championship and conference championship while earning SUNYAC Tournament MVP honors. She finished her basketball career as Plattsburgh State's all-time leader in assists with 498, while ranking second in three-point field goals made and fifth in points and steals.

In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Marshall received the Plattsburgh State Female Student Achievement Award, the Dr. F. Reese Nevin Scholarship Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in Biology, the SUNY Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award and Capital One Academic All-District honors.

Following her playing career, Marshall began her coaching career with Plattsburgh State softball, serving as an assistant coach during the 2015-16 season. She most recently served as the varsity girls basketball head coach at Peru Central School from 2022-26. She led and developed a competitive program centered around accountability, leadership and team culture while designing practice plans focused on skill development and team concepts.

In addition to her coaching background, Marshall has worked as a surgical physician assistant at CVPH Medical Center since 2019, providing preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative care while assisting with a variety of surgical procedures.

Marshall earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from Plattsburgh State before earning a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Clarkson University.

Marshall will begin her duties immediately as she joins the Cardinals' coaching staff for the upcoming season.
