PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation, in conjunction with the Office of Alumni Relations, has announced the Plattsburgh State Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2026. Comprising the Hall of Fame's 41st induction class are Ashley (Marshall) Lamica '14 (softball),
Brittany Marshall '15 (softball and women's basketball), Kara (Buehler) Newtown '12 (women's ice hockey), Alyssa Recny '07 (women's cross country and track and field), and Patrick Shaughnessy '13 (baseball and men's soccer).
The annual induction ceremony and dinner will be held on Friday, September 25, in the Warren Ballroom at the Angell College Center on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus at 6 p.m. Seats for this year's event are $35 per person ($15 for children under the age of 12), and those interested in attending the ceremonies should register by Sept. 16 at http://alumni.plattsburgh.edu/HallofFame.
Ashley (Marshall) Lamica established herself as one of the most dominant pitchers in Plattsburgh State softball history, helping lead the Cardinals to a SUNYAC Championship and NCAA Regional Title in 2012. The standout pitcher earned NFCA Third-Team All-America honors in 2012 and was a four-time NFCA All-Region selection. The Malone, N.Y., native was a two-time SUNYAC Pitcher of the Year, four-time All-SUNYAC selection, and four-time SUNYAC All-Tournament Team honoree, earning both SUNYAC Tournament MVP and NCAA Regional Tournament MVP during the Cardinals' NCAA Regional Title run in 2012. She also earned three ECAC Upstate All-Star selections, CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team and Academic All-District honors, was named to the SUNYAC All-Decade Team, and received the Plattsburgh State Female Senior Achievement Award. Lamica concluded her career as the program's all-time leader in strikeouts (996), which ranks 21st in NCAA Division III history, ERA (1.50), winning percentage (.776), wins (83), shutouts (26), and complete games (77).
Brittany Marshall excelled as a two-sport student-athlete for the Cardinals in softball and women's basketball, helping both programs achieve championship success. On the softball diamond, Marshall was named the 2012 SUNYAC Rookie of the Year, earned three All-SUNYAC selections and First-Team All-Region honors, and helped lead the Cardinals to the 2012 SUNYAC Championship and an NCAA Division III College World Series appearance. On the hardwood, the two-time First-Team All-SUNYAC selection captained the Cardinals for two seasons, leading Plattsburgh State to the 2014 SUNYAC regular-season title and conference championship while earning SUNYAC Tournament MVP honors. The Malone, N.Y., native also received the Plattsburgh State Female Student Achievement Award, the Dr. F. Reese Nevin Scholarship Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in Biology, the SUNY Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award, and Capital One Academic All-District honors. Marshall ranks among the softball program's top five in career runs scored, hits, stolen bases, and defensive assists. She also concluded her women's basketball career as the program's all-time leader in assists (498) while ranking second in three-point field goals made and fifth in points and steals.
Kara (Buehler) Newtown was a standout defender for the Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team, helping lead Plattsburgh State to an NCAA Division III National Championship in 2007-08. A key piece of a dominant defensive unit, she helped the Cardinals post 14 shutouts during the 2007-08 campaign. The Skaneateles, N.Y., native was a two-time First-Team All-ECAC West selection and earned AHCA Second-Team All-America honors in 2009-10 before being named an AHCA First-Team All-American in 2010-11. In addition to those honors, she was also recognized as the Plattsburgh State Female Athlete of the Year in 2010-11 and was a SUNY Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete. Newtown finished her career with 53 points on nine goals and 44 assists.
A two-sport All-American in cross country and track and field, Alyssa Recny was one of the top distance runners in Plattsburgh State history. She earned USTFCCCA All-America honors in cross country after placing 25th at the 2007 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, helping lead the Cardinals to a national runner-up finish. The Keeseville, N.Y., native carried that success into the track and field season, earning USTFCCCA All-America honors in the 5,000-meter run with a fifth-place finish at the 2008 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Recny also earned CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team honors during the 2007-08 academic year.
Patrick Shaughnessy excelled as a two-sport student-athlete for the Cardinals in baseball and men's soccer, earning numerous accolades while helping both programs achieve success. On the baseball diamond, Shaughnessy was a three-time All-SUNYAC honoree, an ABCA Second-Team All-New York Region honoree, a First-Team All-ECAC Upstate selection, and an ABCA New York Region Gold Glove recipient. He holds the program's career record in assists (382) and is tied for second in home runs (11). On the soccer pitch, the Plattsburgh, N.Y., native was also a three-time All-SUNYAC selection, an NSCAA First-Team All-Region honoree, and an ECAC Upstate First-Team All-Star in 2011. He helped lead Plattsburgh State to a SUNYAC Championship in 2010 and earned SUNYAC All-Tournament Team honors in 2010 and 2011. Shaughnessy was selected to the SUNYAC All-Decade Team in both baseball and men's soccer. He was also recognized as a CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team selection, an NSCAA Third-Team Scholar All-American, and an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient. He was the recipient of the Plattsburgh State Male Senior Achievement Award, Richard D. Semmler Award, and SUNY Plattsburgh Cardinal Athletics Provost's Award. Shaughnessy concluded his career tied for fifth in men's soccer history in career goals (42).
