Cardinals Drop Pair at Buffalo State to Close Out 2026 Season

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Plattsburgh State wrapped up its conference slate and 2026 season on the road Saturday, taking on Buffalo State in a SUNYAC doubleheader.

Buffalo State set the tone early in the opener, taking a 1–0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double. The Bengals extended their advantage in the second, stringing together hits and capitalizing on defensive miscues to score three runs and move ahead 4–0.

Plattsburgh broke through in the third inning when Sara Isaacs (Malta, N.Y./Shenendehowa) delivered a sacrifice fly to score Jaylyn Linderman (Lockport, N.Y./Starpoint), cutting the deficit to 4–1. The response was immediate from Buffalo State, which erupted for four runs in the bottom half of the inning, three unearned, to stretch the lead to 8–1.

The Bengals continued to add on in the fourth, plating three more runs on a pair of RBI singles and a sacrifice fly to build an 11–1 cushion.

The Cardinals showed resilience in the fifth inning with a five-run rally. Allison Isaacs (Malta, N.Y./Shenendehowa) stole home to ignite the surge before Sara Isaacs launched a three-run home run to center field, scoring Meghan Stork (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) and Gwen Noll (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's). A wild pitch later in the inning allowed Bella DeLorenzo (Troy, N.Y./Tamarac) to score, trimming the deficit to 11–6.

Buffalo State answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to push the lead back to seven. Plattsburgh added one final run in the seventh on an RBI double from Sara Isaacs, scoring Stork, but the comeback fell short as the Bengals secured a 13–7 win.

Plattsburgh jumped out to an early lead in the second game, as Natalie Rogers (Minisink, N.Y./Minisink Valley) doubled to left-center in the first inning to bring home Meghan Stork for a 1–0 advantage.

Buffalo State answered in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly to even the score, then took control in the second inning. The Bengals scored four runs on a series of RBI singles and a sacrifice fly to build a 5–1 lead.

The Cardinals chipped away in the fifth inning. Sara Isaacs singled to drive in Gwen Noll, before Rogers reached on an error that allowed both Isaacs and Stork to score, cutting the deficit to 5–4.

Once again, Buffalo State responded quickly, adding two runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to 7–4.

Plattsburgh picked up a run in the sixth when Meghan Stork singled to right-center to score Leila Toomey (Commack, N.Y./Commack), making it 7–5, but the Bengals pulled away in the bottom half of the inning. A triple and two RBI singles helped Buffalo State score three insurance runs and seal the 10–5 victory.

With the sweep, the Cardinals conclude their season with a 13–22 overall record and a 7–11 mark in conference play.
