MEET RESULTS
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior
Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall) led the way for the Plattsburgh State men's track and field team, earning two medals as the Cardinals concluded action at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Plattsburgh finished fifth overall with 79 points, while Cortland claimed the team title with 240 points.
In the 100-meter dash, C. Cypress added to his career medal total with a third-place finish in 10.69 seconds, an All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying time. He followed that performance with another podium finish in the 200-meter dash, clocking 22.05 seconds to place second.
Sophomore
Thomas Clark (Stone Ridge, N.Y. / Rondout Valley) and first-year
Max Page (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) both scored for the Cardinals in the 110-meter hurdles. Clark posted an AARTFC qualifying time of 15.19 seconds to finish fifth, while Page placed eighth in 15.62 seconds.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, junior
Zander Brown (Wappingers Falls, N.Y. / Roy C. Ketcham) recorded a personal-best time of 10:06.07 to place seventh and score two points. Junior
Nate Alexander (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus) and first-year
Bryton Mandigo (Hartford, N.Y. / Hartford) also turned in personal-best performances, finishing 11th (10:30.07) and 12th (10:32.43), respectively.
In other distance action, senior
Samuel Van Auken (Greenville, N.Y. / Greenville) placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:40.78.
In relay competition, the 4x100-meter relay team of first-year
Milo Pearsall (Cold Spring, N.Y. / Haldane), sophomore
Brian Shannon (Goshen, N.Y. / Goshen), first-year
Giel Cheverez-Soto (Amsterdam, N.Y. / Amsterdam), and sophomore
Ethan Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall) placed sixth in 43.45 seconds to add three points. The 4x400-meter relay team of E. Cypress, Cheverez-Soto, Page, and C. Cypress also finished sixth, crossing in 3:29.77.
Graduate student
Faris Webber (Arlington, Va. / Washington Liberty) closed out a strong decathlon performance with a silver medal, placing second with 5,464 points. His effort was highlighted by first-place finishes in the discus throw (36.61 meters), javelin (43.26 meters), and the 1,500-meter run (4:51.48). He also recorded a personal-best time of 17.87 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles, placing fourth.
In the field events, first-year
Collin Pringle (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) earned a silver medal in the triple jump with an AARTFC qualifying mark of 14.05 meters. He also tied for fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.85 meters. Junior
Tyler Baker (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) tied for eighth in the high jump (1.80 meters), while senior
De'Andre Watson (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) recorded a personal-best mark of 12.56 meters in the triple jump.
Another highlight came from sophomore
Nathan Webber (Cadyville, N.Y. / Saranac), who earned his first career medal with a second-place finish in the discus throw, recording an AARTFC qualifying mark of 44.54 meters.
E. Cypress was awarded the prestigious SUNYAC Elite 20 Award, an award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, which recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. A biomedical sciences major, he currently holds a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Plattsburgh earned a total of five All-SUNYAC honors. All-league recognition is awarded to the top three finishers in each event, with first place earning first team, second place earning second team, and third place earning third team honors:
