Cypress Posts AARTFC Mark in the 60-Meter Dash as Men's Track & Field Competes at Utica

UTICA, N.Y. – Senior Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall) earned a first-place finish and an All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying time in the 60-meter dash as the Plattsburgh State men's track and field team competed at the Blue and Orange Invitational & Multi on Saturday afternoon. Cypress finished with a time of 6.89 seconds.

In the sprint events, senior Jordan Williams (Bronx, N.Y. / Cardinal Hayes) and junior Ryan Beltran (Bronx, N.Y. / Cardinal Hayes) both had solid outings. In the 60-meter dash preliminaries, Williams posted a personal best time of 7.23 seconds, finishing 14th, and Beltran finished in 7.31 seconds, coming in at 20th, also a personal best.

In the 60-meter hurdles qualifiers, first-year Michael Slominski (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) and graduate student Faris Webber (Arlington, Va. / Washington Liberty) both recorded personal best times. Slominski crossed the line in 9.45 seconds, and F. Webber finished in 9.88 seconds.

Beltran paced the Cardinals with an eighth-place finish in the 200-meter dash open, clocking 23.16 seconds, while junior Aidan Lobdell (Westport, N.Y. / Bouquet Valley) recorded a new personal best time of 23.99 seconds.

In the 400-meter dash invite, sophomore Ethan Cypress (New Windsor / Cornwall) faced stiff competition, posting a time of 52.39 seconds for 14th place. First-year Giel Cheverez-Soto (Amsterdam, N.Y. / Amsterdam) had the best finish for the Cardinals in the 400-meter dash open, placing 17th and timing in at 55.33 seconds.

Senior Samuel Van Auken (Greenville, N.Y. / Greenville) competed in the one-mile run and was the top finisher for the Cardinals, placing 14th in 4:28.40. First-year Michael Ayala (New Paltz, N.Y. / New Paltz) recorded a solid time of 4:46.83, a new personal best.

In the field events, Sophomore Jackson Hooper (Elizabethtown, N.Y. / Bouquet Valley) led the way with a first-place finish in the high jump invite, clearing 1.96 meters.

Junior Isaiah Ritter (Peekskill, N.Y. / Peekskill) and fifth-year Jeremiah Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y. / East New York Family Academy) both finished in the top three in the long jump. Ritter placed second with a mark of 6.92 meters, followed by Smith in third with a jump of 6.78 meters.

Sophomore Zach Stevens (Queensbury, N.Y. / Glens Falls) had the best outing for the Cardinals in the weight throw, with a throw of 13.21 meters.

The Cardinals will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 10, when they host their lone home meet at the Plattsburgh State Field House at 4 p.m.
