2/16/2026 2:03:00 PM

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) of the Plattsburgh State men's track and field team has been selected as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the period ending Feb. 15, as announced Monday by the conference office. This is his fifth career honor and the third weekly honor for the team this year.

Cypress delivered a record-breaking performance in the 200-meter dash at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. The senior sprinter posted a time of 21.78 seconds, trimming 0.25 seconds off his own indoor program record and earning an AARTFC qualifying mark with a 16th-place finish in a 36-athlete field. Cypress also turned in a strong performance in the 400-meter dash, posting a first-place finish with a time of 50.24 seconds, narrowly missing an AARTFC qualifying mark as Plattsburgh State competed at the Tufts Cupid Challenge.

The Cardinals return to action on Friday, Feb. 20, traveling to St. Lawrence for the SLU Open.
