Men’s Track and Field Competes in Annual Plattsburgh State Home Meet

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team competed in the Plattsburgh State Tuesday Track & Field Meet on Tuesday evening, as eight Cardinals claimed victories on their home track. For the fourth straight year, Plattsburgh State hosted its lone meet of the season, once again facing St. Lawrence and Potsdam, with Mohawk Valley Community College joining the field this year.

During the meet, Plattsburgh State recognized seven seniors in Jack Natali Jr. (Clayton, N.Y. / Thousand Islands), Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall), Thomas Konnick (Cooperstown, N.Y. / Laurens), Jeremiah Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y. / East New York Family Academy), De'Andre Watson (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh), Faris Webber (Arlington, Va. / Washington Liberty), and Jordan Williams (Bronx, N.Y. / Cardinal Hayes).

The 55-meter dash saw the Cardinals finish 1,2,3 as Williams led the pack with a first-place finish in 6.58 seconds. Next was first-year Milo Pearsall (Cold Spring, N.Y. / Haldane) in second, clocking a time of 6.65 seconds, followed by sophomore Ethan Cypress (New Windsor / Cornwall) in third with a time of 6.73 seconds, a new personal best. Fifth-year Jeremiah Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y. / East New York Family Academy) also advanced to the finals, coming in at 6.82 seconds for fourth place. Junior Aidan Lobdell (Westport, N.Y. / Bouquet Valley) had a solid run in the 55-meter dash preliminaries, timing in at 7.06 seconds.

In the 55-meter hurdles, sophomore Thomas Clark (Stone Ridge, N.Y. / Rondout Valley) led the way with a first-place time of 8.02 seconds, a new personal best. First-year Max Page (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) was right behind him in second with a mark of 8.26 seconds. First-year Michael Slominski (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) also competed in the 55-meter hurdles, timing in at 8.80 seconds.

E. Cypress had a strong showing for the Cardinals today, earning a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 23.81 seconds. Pearsall wasn't far behind, finishing second in 24.22 seconds, and sophomore Brian Shannon (Goshen, N.Y. / Goshen) took fifth place with a time of 25.09 seconds. Page had a solid performance, timing in at 25.79 seconds. Sophomore Jack Scauri (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge) followed with a time of 25.96 seconds

The Cardinals took the top two spots in the 300-meter dash as sophomore Jack Gregory (Guilderland, N.Y. / Guilderland) placed first in 39.86 seconds, followed by classmate Hassani St. John (Trinidad and Tobago) in second with a time of 41.67 seconds.

First-year Giel Cheverez-Soto (Amsterdam, N.Y. / Amsterdam) paced the Cardinals in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 57.48 seconds for third place.

Multiple Cardinal athletes competed in the 800-meter run, led by junior Zander Brown (Wappingers Falls, N.Y. / Roy C. Ketcham) in first place with a mark of 2:06.29. First-year Bryton Mandigo (Hartford, N.Y. / Hartford) had a strong performance, placing third in 2:11.77. Sophomore Brody Serfass (Endwell, N.Y. / Maine Endwell) and senior Jack Natali Jr. (Clayton, N.Y. / Thousand Islands) had solid showings, with times of 2:20.41 and 2:20.63, respectively.

Mandigo put up another outstanding performance this time in the one-mile run, taking first place in 4:52.15, a new personal best. Natali Jr. was second, clocking a time of 4:54.36, and junior Matthias Lauvau (Rye, N.Y. / Rye) was third, coming in at 4:54.51, both recording new personal bests. Serfass recorded a personal best time of 4:58.15.

First-year Collin Pringle (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) and senior De'Andre Watson (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) highlighted the jumps. Pringle took first place with a personal best jump of 1.94 meters in the high jump, while Watson took second with a jump of 12.19 meters in the triple jump.

Slominski recorded a personal best jump of 5.62 meters in the long jump, while first-year Rashid Okine (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) matched his personal best in the triple jump, leaping 11.09 meters.

In the throwing events, first-year Roanan Ross (Memphis, N.Y. / Jordan Eldridge) and sophomore Zach Stevens (Queensbury, N.Y. / Glens Falls) led the way. Ross threw a personal best 12.25 meters in the shot put for first place, and Stevens threw 12.46 meters in the weight throw for second place.

Graduate student Faris Webber (Arlington, Va. / Washington Liberty) finished third in the shot put with a throw of 11.61 meters, followed by sophomore Manny Olivier (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Glen Cove) in third with a throw of 11.20 meters. First-year Caleb Lewis (New City, N.Y.) had a solid outing in the shot put with a throw of 10.11 meters.

The Cardinals will return to action on Friday, Feb. 13, when those who qualify travel to Boston University for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
