Cypress Breaks Program 300-Meter Indoor Record as Men’s Track and Field Places First at St. Lawrence Invitational

CANTON, N.Y – Senior Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall) broke the indoor program record in the 300-meter dash, as the Plattsburgh State men's track and field team competed at the St. Lawrence Invitational, placing first with 175 points. Cypress clocked a time of 35.27, which was also a new meet and facility record as well.

In the 60-meter dash, Plattsburgh was led by senior Jordan Williams (Bronx, N.Y. / Cardinal Hayes), who captured first place with a personal best time of 7.09 seconds, earning 10 points. Milo Pearsall (Cold Spring, N.Y. / Haldane) followed closely behind, finishing second in 7.10 seconds, a new personal best as well, and adding eight points to the Cardinals' total. Ethan Cypress (New Windsor / Cornwall) rounded out the scoring for Plattsburgh, placing fifth with a time of 7.32 seconds to contribute four points.

The Cardinals had a strong showing in the 60-meter hurdles, with Thomas Clark (Stone Ridge, N.Y. / Rondout Valley) taking second place in 8.76 seconds to earn eight points, while Max Page (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) finished fourth in 8.96 seconds, a new personal best, for five points.

Plattsburgh had multiple scorers in the 200-meter dash, led by E. Cypress, who finished second with a time of 23.33 seconds to earn eight points. Pearsall followed with a fourth-place finish in 23.75 seconds, contributing five points.

Aidan Lobdell (Westport, N.Y. / Bouquet Valley) added to the Cardinals' total by placing sixth in 24.53 seconds, a personal best, to score four points, while Collin Pringle (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) crossed the line just behind him in seventh, also at 24.53 seconds, picking up three points. Jack Scauri (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge) rounded out the scoring for Plattsburgh with a ninth-place finish in 25.33 seconds, earning one point.

Michael Ayala (New Paltz, N.Y. / New Paltz) placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.44, earning five points. Samuel Van Auken (Greenville, N.Y. / Greenville) won the 3,000-meter run in 8:52.96, a new personal best, scoring 10 points.

In the one-mile run, Nate Alexander (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus) recorded a new personal best, coming in at 5:14.67. Another highlight was Matthias Lauvau (Rye, N.Y. / Rye), who also recorded a new personal best, finishing in 9:53.68.

The Plattsburgh State 4x400-meter relay team of Giel Cheverez-Soto (Amsterdam, N.Y. / Amsterdam), E. Cypress, C. Cypress, and Jack Gregory (Guilderland, N.Y. / Guilderland) placed second, recording a time of 3:38.33 for eight points.

The long jump event saw Jeremiah Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y. / East New York Family Academy) take first place with a leap of 6.81 meters, a new personal best, earning ten points. Isaiah Ritter (Peekskill, N.Y. / Peekskill) finished second with a jump of 6.59 meters for eight points, and Jacai Sanders (Rochester, N.Y. / East) placed sixth with a personal best jump of 5.88 meters for three points. In the triple jump, De'Andre Watson (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) placed third with a jump of 12.34 meters, earning six points.

In the high jump, Jackson Hooper (Elizabethtown, N.Y. / Bouquet Valley) took first place, clearing 1.90 meters to earn ten points. Pringle finished fourth, jumping 1.80 meters for five points.

The throwing events saw Nathan Webber (Cadyville, N.Y. / Saranac) take first place in the shot put with a throw of 12.08 meters, earning ten points. Roanan Ross (Memphis, N.Y. / Jordan Eldridge) placed fourth with 11.61 meters for five points, Faris Webber (Arlington, Va. / Washington Liberty) secured fifth place with a toss of 11.56 meters for four points, and Manny Olivier (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Glen Cove) finished seventh with a throw of 11.20 meters for two points. N. Webber, Ross, and F. Webber's throws were all personal bests. Chandler Baxter (Ogdensburg, N.Y. / Ogdensburg) and Zach Stevens (Queensbury, N.Y. / Glens Falls) both recorded personal bests, throwing 9.81 meters for twelfth place and 9.78 meters for thirteenth, respectively.

In the weight throw, Stevens claimed first place with a throw of 13.90 meters, earning ten points. N. Webber took second with a throw of 12.88 meters for eight points. Olivier placed sixth, throwing 11.62 meters and earning four points. Ross threw 11.33 meters for seventh place and three points. Caleb Lewis recorded a toss of 10.85 meters for eighth place, earning two points. Thomas Konnick (Cooperstown, N.Y. / Laurens) finished ninth with a throw of 10.73 meters for one point. Stevens, Oliver, Ross, Lewis, and Konnick all recorded personal bests. Baxter threw a personal best 10.69 meters for tenth place.

Michael Slominski was busy for the Cardinals as he competed in the heptathlon, placing fourth overall, earning five points. Slominski's performance was highlighted by second-place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles and the high jump. In the 60-meter hurdles, he came in at 9.39 seconds, and in the high jump cleared 1.67 meters.

The Cardinals are next in action on Saturday, Jan. 31, when they travel to Ithaca to compete in the Bomber Invitational.
