MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team traveled to Middlebury to compete in the Middlebury Winter Classic. Senior
Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall) led the way with a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash, timing in at 22.26 seconds.
The meet opened in the field with the weight throw, where
Nathan Webber (Cadyville, N.Y. / Saranac) led the Cardinals with a throw of 12.65 meters for fifth place. In his first collegiate meet, Caleb Lewis registered a throw of 8.74 meters. In the shot put, Webber led the way again with a throw of 11.54 meters, finishing fourth overall.
Manny Olivier (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Glen Cove) was next for the Cardinals in seventh place with a personal-best throw of 11.24 meters, while Lewis recorded his first career throw of 9.86 meters.
Action on the runway began with the long jump, as
Isaiah Ritter (Peekskill, N.Y. / Peekskill) recorded a jump of 6.54 meters for second place to pace the Cardinals. Right behind him,
Faris Webber (Arlington, Va. / Washington Liberty) jumped 6.52 meters for third place.
Michael Slominski (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) recorded the first jump of his career with a mark of 5.46 meters.
On the track, the 60-meter hurdles finals saw
Max Page (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) claim fifth place with a time of 9.05 seconds. Slominski finished sixth with a time of 10.99 seconds. In the 60-meter dash finals,
Charles Cypress finished in 6.95 seconds for second place.
Distance runners took over during the mile, as
Zander Brown (Wappingers Falls, N.Y. / Roy C. Ketcham) crossed the line at 4:49.1, finishing in 19th place.
Field events continued with the high jump, as
Jackson Hooper (Elizabethtown, N.Y. / Bouquet Valley) cleared 1.87 meters for second place. Slominski posted his first career mark in the high jump with a jump of 1.62 meters.
Mid-distance action followed in the 1000-meter race, with
Bryton Mandigo (Hartford, N.Y. / Hartford) pacing the Cardinals with a time of 2:56.37 for 13th place.
The 200-meter dash capped individual events.
Ethan Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall) finished right behind his brother with a time of 23.12 seconds for third place.
Milo Pearsall (Cold Spring, N.Y. / Haldane) finished in 24.11 seconds, narrowly missing a personal best but good enough for sixth place.
Jackson Barg (Niagara Falls, N.Y. / Niagara Falls) recorded his first collegiate mark in the event at 24.88 seconds for 11th place.
Relay action rounded out the meet, starting with the 4x200-meter relay. The team of
Giel Cheverez-Soto (Amsterdam, N.Y. / Amsterdam),
Jack Scauri (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge),
Ryan Beltran (Bronx, N.Y. / Cardinal Hayes), and
Jack Gregory (Guilderland, N.Y. / Guilderland) finished in 1:39.51 for third place. The day concluded with the 4x400-meter relay. The team of
Michael Ayala (New Paltz, N.Y. / New Paltz),
Zander Brown,
Brody Serfass (Endwell, N.Y. / Maine-Endwell), and
Matthias Lauvau (Rye, N.Y. / Rye) finished in 3:52.97, placing second.
The Cardinals are next in action on Saturday, Jan. 24, when they travel to St. Lawrence to compete in the St. Lawrence Invitational.
