2025 USTFCCCA Track and Field Academic Awards
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their track and field academic awards on Monday afternoon, and
Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall), along with the women's track and field team at Plattsburgh, were honored for their success in the classroom and on the track.
For athletes to be eligible, students must carry a GPA over 3.30 and meet one of the following athletic criteria listed by the USTFCCCA:
- Must have finished the season among the top 50 individuals as listed on the descending order lists on TFRRS. In addition, any athletes not among the top 50, but who participated at the Indoor or Outdoor National Championships, are eligible.
- Must have competed as a member of one of the top 35 relay teams as listed on the indoor descending order list on TFRRS. In addition, any athletes not among the top 35 relay teams, but who participated in the relay at the Indoor or Outdoor National Championships, are eligible. Finally, any competing relay team member on an expanded descending order list to include 35 institutions (1 relay team per institution) is eligible.
Teams must carry a GPA of at least 3.10 to be eligible for the USTFCCCA All-Academic list.
Cypress had a strong season, as he captured USTFCCCA Mideast All-Region Honors for his success during the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Season. He ended the season with the 38th-best time in all of Division III in the indoor 60-meter dash at 6.86 seconds and the 39th-best time in the indoor 200-meter dash at 22.03 seconds. He achieved his time of 6.86 seconds twice, first at Day 1 of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships in the preliminary round, and then at Day 2 of the SUNYAC Championships in the finals, winning the conference championship in the 60-meter dash. His time of 6.86 seconds in the 60-meter dash, along with his mark of 22.03 seconds in the 200-meter dash, both set program records. Cypress concluded his indoor season in the 200-meter dash, placing fourth at the All Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships. On the season, he won four times in the 60-meter dash and two times in the 200-meter dash. He also set a new program record in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.42 seconds. In the outdoor season, he finished third in the SUNYAC in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, ending his year with three medals.
The women's track and field team excelled in the classroom, boasting a cumulative GPA of 3.43, which meets the USTFCCCA mark of 3.1.
The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team finished sixth at the SUNYAC Indoor Championships and fourth at the SUNYAC Outdoor Championships, while the women finished fifth in indoor and outdoor in the 2024-25 season.
