MEET RESULTS
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior
Isaiah Martens-Collins (London, Ontario/Penticton) won the javelin throw at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, leading the Plattsburgh State men's track & field team as they placed fourth. The Cardinals scored 71 points to earn fourth, the highest finish for a Plattsburgh State men's team since 2006.
The Cards had six student-athletes medal on Saturday, joining sophomore
Isaiah Ritter (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill), who took second place in the long jump last night. Martens-Collins captured the lone gold, while the team had three second-place finishes on Saturday and two bronze medal efforts.
Martens-Collins won the SUNYAC Championship in the javelin with their throw of 52.42 meters, nearly matching their personal best of 52.94 meters. The mark was also an All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Championship qualifying mark for the senior.
Junior
Samuel Van Auken (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) had a fantastic day for the Cardinals, placing second in the 10,000-meter run and just missing out on another medal in the 5,000-meter run with a fourth-place finish. Van Auken posted an AARTFC qualifying mark in the 10k, with a Plattsburgh best mark of 32:27.30. Junior
Jack Natali Jr. (Clayton, N.Y./Thousand Islands) also scored for the Cardinals in the 10,000-meter run, placing eighth with a time of 35:43.72. Later in the day, Van Auken placed fourth in the 5k, as he had a 15:45.60 showing to help earn five points for the Cardinals.
First-year
Jackson Hooper (Elizabethtown, N.Y./Boquet Valley) picked up his first career medal in the high jump, matching his personal best leap, clearing 1.95 meters on his second attempt. The mark also meets the AARTFC Championship qualifying standard.
Senior
Faris Webber (Arlington, Va./Washington Liberty) put on a fantastic showing throughout both days to earn second place in the decathlon with a score of 5,207 points, an AARTFC qualifying mark. He finished just 92 points off the leader, as he had the best marks in the shotput, discus, javelin, and 1,500-meter run.
Junior
Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) earned two bronze medals on the day for Plattsburgh State, competing in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. The junior posted a time of 10.98 seconds in the 100-meter race, as fellow junior
Jordan Williams (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) placed sixth with a time of 11.23 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, Cypress was third with a time of 22.02 seconds, while Williams earned 16
th with a time of 22.95 seconds.
Both the Cardinals' relay teams placed fifth at the SUNYAC Outdoor Championships, helping the team just edge out SUNY Delhi for fourth place by 1.5 points. In the 4x100-meter relay, the crew of sophomores
Justin Rushia (Warrensburg, N.Y./Warrensburg) and
Ryan Beltran (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes), as well as juniors
Julius James (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) and Williams, record an AARTFC qualifying time of 43.12 seconds. In the 4x400-meter relay, Beltran, first-years
Joshua Gaboriault (Saranac, N.Y./Saranac) &
Ethan Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall), as well as
Charles Cypress, were fifth with a time of 3:25.12, just missing the AARTFC qualifying standard.
Webber was awarded the prestigious SUNYAC Elite 20 award, given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the championship event in their respective sport. The senior carries a 4.0 GPA as a supply chain management and business administration major.
Cortland captured the title with 246.5 points, followed by Penn State Behrend and Oneonta. Cortland's Isaiah Brunache was the MVP of the meet, while the Rookie of the Meet went to PSU-Behrend's Carter Tobin.
