CORTLAND, N.Y. –
Isaiah Ritter (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) took home a silver medal at Day One of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships, as the sophomore took home second place in the long jump. His jump of 6.89 meters is a new personal record and qualified him for the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships.
Ritter, sophomore
Tyler Baker (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh), and first-year
Zach Stevens (Queensbury, N.Y./Glens Falls) were the lone Cardinals who competed in finals on Friday night, as Baker placed 15th in the long jump with a 6.20 meter jump, and Stevens placed 20
th in the hammer throw with a 39.46 personal best throw.
Junior
Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) broke his 100-meter dash program record, as he posted a new personal best mark of 10.67, qualifying for tomorrow's finals. Junior
Jordan Williams (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) produced a new personal best mark in the 100-meter dash first round as well, qualifying for the finals in the SUNYAC championship with a time of 10.78 seconds. Both marks were AARTFC qualifiers for the two junior sprinters.
First-year
Thomas Clark (Stone Ridge, N.Y./Rondout Valley) qualified for the finals in the 110-meter hurdles, posting an AARTFC qualifying mark of 14.97 seconds and a new personal best.
Other Cardinals competing on Friday included sophomore
Ryan Beltran (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes), who finished 15
th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.25 seconds. Senior
Justin Kumrow (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) finished 12
th in the 800-meter run with a new personal best of 1:58.60. First-year
Joshua Gaboriault (Saranac, N.Y./Saranac) finished 14
th in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a time of 1:01.32.
Currently, senior
Faris Webber (Arlington, Va./Washington Liberty) is second in the decathlon with a score of 2703 with five events left. He finished first in the shot put and was second in the long jump, high jump, and 400-meter dash amongst his fellow decathletes.
The Cardinals will continue in the SUNYAC Championships tomorrow, May 3, beginning at approximately 9:20 a.m. Several events were postponed on Friday night and will pick up with an earlier start tomorrow morning than originally planned, in an adjusted schedule.
