CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team is set to compete at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, May 2, and Saturday, May 3, at Cortland's Stadium Complex.
SUNYAC CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY: Led by fourth-year head coach
Andrew Krug '10, the Cardinals are looking to continue to move up the conference standings, as Plattsburgh State finished fifth out of nine teams at last year's meet. Geneseo, which had won six straight outdoor track and field championships, departed the conference, meaning a new champion will be crowned for the first time since 2017. Cortland won in 2016 and 2017 and finished second last year, as they look to be the favorites heading into the weekend. Teams competing this year include several new schools, such as Alfred State, Morrisville, Penn State Behrend, SUNY Cobleskill, and SUNY Delhi, which will be a part of the 2025 outdoor championships.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS: All season long, junior
Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) has led the way for the Cardinals as the sprinter will look to add to his fantastic outdoor season. Cypress currently sits as the second seed in the 100-meter dash (10.71) and the 200-meter dash (21.51). The Plattsburgh program record holder in the 200-meter dash will look to add to his outdoor medal sheet after earning a second-place finish last year in the 200-meter dash and third place in the 100-meter race.
