Men's Track & Field Competes at the Middlebury Invitational

MEET RESULTS

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team traveled to Middlebury, Vermont, on Saturday, competing in the Middlebury Invitational. Senior Isaiah Martens-Collins (London, Ontario/Penticton) led the way for the team with an All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) championships qualifying mark in the javelin, also taking home the event win.

Martens-Collins threw 52.94 meters, a mark that now has him ranked third in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) in the javelin. First-year Jackson Hooper (Elizabethtown, N.Y./Boquet Valley) also took first place in his respective event, winning the high jump, clearing 1.90 meters.

Junior Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) placed second in the 100-meter dash, posting a time of 11.16 seconds. Justin Rushia (Warrensburg, N.Y./Warrensburg) was fifth in the event with a season-best time of 11.42 seconds.

The 4x100-meter relay crew of sophomore Ryan Beltran (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes), junior Jordan Williams (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes), junior Julius James (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes), and Cypress placed second and posted a season-best time of 42.47, an AARTFC Championship qualifying time.

First-year Joshua Gaboriault (Saranac, N.Y./Saranac) posted a personal best mark of 1:01.83 in the 400-meter hurdles to place fourth. Sophomore Nate Alexander (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) posted a season best for the Cardinals in 3,000-meter steeplechase with a. time of 10:53.50.

Plattsburgh's 4x400-meter relay squad of senior Justin Kumrow (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), sophomore Zander Brown (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham), sophomore Matthias Lauvau (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck), and senior JT Zimmerman (Middlesex, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) placed sixth with a season best time of 3:51.87.

In the discus, Faris Webber (Arlington, Va./Washington Liberty) placed seventh with a new personal best toss of 34.98 meters, with first-year Manny Olivier (Glen Cove, N.Y./Glen Cove) not far behind with a throw of 31.31 meters. Olivier also had a personal best throw in the shot put, with his 10.61-meter throw to place ninth. First-year Zach Stevens (Queensbury, N.Y./Glens Falls) had a personal record throw of 36.83 meters in the hammer throw, placing eighth, and also finished 10th in the shot put with a 9.51-meter throw. Webber also had a sixth-place finish in the javelin, recording a throw of 37.28 meters.

The Cards had a couple of strong performances in the high jump to go along with Hooper's event win, as first-year Drew Duncan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown Heights) cleared 1.80 meters to finish fourth and sophomore Tyler Baker (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) cleared 1.75 meters for a new season best. Baker also placed second in the long jump, leaping 6.42 meters. De'Andre Watson (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) finished seventh in the triple jump with an 11.52-meter jump.

The Cardinals are next in action on Friday, April 25, for their final meet before the conference championships, heading to St. Lawrence for the SLU Twilight Invite.
