ALBANY, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team traveled to the University of Albany on Friday afternoon to compete in the Bobbi Palma Spring Classic, as seven men competed for Plattsburgh State. Junior Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) broke the outdoor program record in the 200-meter dash, posting a new program best time of 21.51 seconds.

The new record surpasses Gary Gillis' old mark of 21.3 seconds that was hand timed, as the conversion from hand time to fully automatic timing (FAT) puts Cypress' mark as the new program best. The mark earned the junior sprinter fourth place, as he competed against several NCAA Division I athletes. The mark was also an All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) championship qualifying time.

Cypress also raced in the 100-meter dash, placing sixth by putting up a new personal best of 10.71 seconds, another AARTFC qualifying mark. Junior Jordan Williams (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) also competed in the 100-meter race, finishing 11th with a time of 11.00 seconds.

Sophomore Ryan Beltran (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) was fourth in the 400-meter dash, posting a new personal record of 50.12 seconds.

First-year Thomas Clark (Stone Ridge, N.Y./Rondout Valley) competed in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing eighth with a time of 15.21 seconds, a new personal best.

First-year Jackson Hooper (Elizabethtown, N.Y./Boquet Valley) placed fifth in the high jump, clearing 1.91 meters, as sophomore Tyler Baker (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) cleared 1.71 meters to finish seventh.

Baker also competed in the long jump, placing eighth with a 6.52-meter jump, while sophomore Isaiah Ritter (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) finished sixth with his jump of 6.71 meters.

The Cardinals next compete at the Middlebury Invitational on Saturday, April 19, beginning at 11 a.m.
