PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Junior Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) set a new indoor program record in the 55-meter dash as the Plattsburgh State men's track and field team competed in the Plattsburgh State Tuesday Track & Field Meet on Tuesday evening. For the third straight year, Plattsburgh State was able to host their lone meet of the year, competing once again against St. Lawrence and Potsdam with the Royal Military College-Saint Jean joining the teams this year.

The new program record for Cypress stands at 6.42, bettering the hand-timed 6.30 of Eric Allen back in 1990. With today's fully automatic timing (FAT) the time is more accurate and by conversion standards, Cypress's time is the new program mark. This is the second program record Cypress has set this season, as he broke his old program record in the 200-meter dash that he set last winter.

Seven Cardinals were victors in their events today, as no team scoring was tracked. First-year Thomas Clark (Stone Ridge, N.Y./Rondout Valley) began the day for Plattsburgh State with his 55-meter hurdles win, finishing with a time of 8.39 seconds. Cypress followed with his 55-meter dash win at 6.42 seconds and later also won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.64 seconds. Sophomore Ryan Beltran (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) won the 300-meter dash with a time of 37.97 seconds, just edging out two first-years in Ethan Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall), who ran a time of 38.12 seconds, and Christian Barjon (Garnerville, N.Y./North Rockland), who ran a time of 40.04 seconds. First-year Joshua Gaboriault (Saranac, N.Y./Saranac) won the 400-meter dash, as he finished in 54.90 seconds.

First-year Drew Duncan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown Heights) won the high jump by clearing 1.82 meters, and first-year Nathan Webber (Cadyville, N.Y./Saranac) won the shotput with a toss of 12.53 meters. Webber also had a throw of 13.02 meters in the weight throw that placed third.

Other notable finishes came from sophomore Tyler Baker (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh), who placed third in the 55-meter hurdles and in the high jump. He posted a time of 8.61 seconds in the hurdles, while clearing a new personal best 1.77 meters in the high jump. Juniors Jordan Williams (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) and Julius James (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) had strong times in the 55-meter dash, finishing behind Cypress at 6.56 and 6.71 seconds, respectively. James was also third in the long jump with his leap of 5.89 meters, while first-year teammate Trevon Mitchell (Peru, N.Y./Peru) finished second with a 6.10-meter jump.

The distance teams had some strong back-to-back finishes in the mile run and 600-meter run to put together a nice evening. Sophomore Zander Brown (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) was second in the mile with a 4:47.09 mark, while senior Denali Rodriguez-Garnica (Port Henry, N.Y./Moriah) was third at 4:50.82. In one of the days final events, senior Justin Kumrow (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) finished second in the 600-meter event with his time of 1:28.45, while sophomore Matt DeJulio (Wynantskill, N.Y./Averill Park) was right behind him for third at 1:28.83.

The team will next be in action on Friday, Feb. 7 for the Fastrack National Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility for those who qualify.
