Cypress Breaks Program 60-Meter Dash Record as Men's Track & Field Competes at Day One of the SUNYAC Indoor Championships

2/28/2025 8:52:00 PM

BROCKPORT, N.Y – For the third time this winter, junior Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) broke a program record, this time in the 60-meter dash with an outstanding mark of 6.86 seconds as the Plattsburgh State men's track and field team at Day One of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships.

After day one, the Cardinals have three points, with just five events complete to sit in ninth place.

Cypress has the top time in the 60-meter dash entering Saturday, as his 6.86 second time broke Eric Allen's 6.70 hand-timed record. With today's fully automatic timing (FAT) the time is more accurate and by conversion standards, Cypress's time is the new program mark. The time is also an All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying mark

Junior Jordan Williams (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) posted a career-best mark in the 60-meter dash, earning a spot in tomorrow's final as his 6.98-second time was the sixth fastest. He also qualified for the AARTC Championships next weekend with his time.

First-year Thomas Clark (Stone Ridge, N.Y./Rondout Valley) qualified for tomorrow's 60-meter hurdles time of 8.71 seconds, just off the 8.60 AARTFC qualifying mark. The first-year finished sixth on Friday and will have a chance to compete for his first collegiate medal in his first collegiate meet.

Plattsburgh's distance medley relay team collected the only points of the day for the team, as the group of Justin Kumrow (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), Christian Barjon (Garnerville, N.Y./North Rockland), Matt DeJulio (Wynantskill, N.Y./Averill Park), and Zander Brown (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) posted a time of 11:10.33, good for sixth place and three points.

The Cardinals will continue their competition at the SUNYAC championships tomorrow at the Special Events Recreation Center (SERC) beginning at 10:30 a.m.
