2023 Roster

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.
 – The Plattsburgh State women's track and field team kicks off its 2023 outdoor season on Saturday, April 1, at the Saints Broken Open hosted by St. Lawrence University and looks to continue to climb the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) standings.

The Cardinals, who are led by second-year head coach Andrew Krug, finished fifth at last year's SUNYAC Outdoor Championships, just four points back of fourth-place SUNY Oneonta.

Sprints

Seniors Jessica Landman (Barneveld, N.Y./Holland Patent) and Deanna Zoch (Nassau, N.Y./Columbia) lead the Cardinal sprinters among the returners, as they both qualified for the SUNYAC Championships last year. Sophomore Morgan Thompson (Porter Corners, N.Y./Corinth) also brings veteran experience to the sprint group after competing for Plattsburgh State last spring.

Newcomers to the group include sophomore Jessica Mare (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) and first-year students Mikayla Khadijah (Cairo, N.Y./Cairo-Durham) and Emily Stritzl (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park).

Middle Distance

Graduate student Aislyn McDonough (Rouses Point, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton), fresh off an indoor season in which she won the SUNYAC title in the 800-meter run, will look to finish her decorated career strong during her final season of track. She was the runner-up in the 800-meter run last season at the conference meet and counts on being a major factor at the SUNYAC Championships once again this year.

Distance

Among the returning distance runners, sophomore Sarah Smith (Lake Pleasant, N.Y./Wells) leads the way after having qualified for the conference meet last year in the 10,000-meter run, while junior Natalia Castro (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) also brings collegiate outdoor experience to the table.

Sophomore Grace Boyle (Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee) and first-year students Marissa Colvin (South Glens Falls, N.Y./South Glens Falls), Virginia Lucchetti (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus), Jodie May (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) and Jayelee Southwell (Morrisonville, N.Y./Peru) round out the remainder of the distance corps.

Hurdles

Senior Janyll Barber (Dannemora, N.Y./Saranac) will look to qualify for her third NCAA Outdoor Championships during her final season in a Cardinal singlet, as she set the program record in the 400-meter hurdles during the preliminary heats of the national championships last year. Barber, who wound up finishing ninth in the event at nationals, was the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles at last year's SUNYAC meet and will once again be a contender for the conference title in 2023.

Jumps

Junior Michaela Schaffer (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) will look to serve as one of the conference's best horizontal jumpers once again after a year in which she qualified for the SUNYAC Outdoor Championships in both the triple jump and the long jump, placing fifth in both. In addition to Barber, who also has horizontal jumping experience, she is joined this year by three newcomers: junior Becca Christie (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) and first-year students Libby Daly (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) and Kailyn Ginter (Northville, N.Y./Northville).

Throws

Senior Jasmine Piper (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and graduate student Kaitlyn Bjelko (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) helped contribute toward Plattsburgh State's finish at the SUNYAC meet last season, as both scored points in a throwing event. Piper took fourth in the discus throw, while Bjelko was fifth in the shot put. They are joined by two other returners—senior Izzy Kocienda (Rock Tavern, N.Y./Washingtonville) and sophomore Alaina Conners (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson)—in addition to first-year student Mia Sanford (Saranac Lake, N.Y./Saranac Lake).

Multis

Both senior Mikayla Osmer (Cutchogue, N.Y./Mattituck) and junior Katie Bergé (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) qualified for the SUNYAC Championships last year in the heptathlon and will look to make the conference meet again this season, while first-year student Marissa LeDuc (Saranac, N.Y./Saranac) will also look to compete in the heptathlon this season.
