Fitzgerald Named CSC Academic All-District

11/21/2023 2:50:00 PM

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Plattsburgh State women's soccer senior midfielder Nora Fitzgerald (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) was selected for the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, as announced by CSC on Tuesday afternoon. Fitzgerald is the first women's soccer player since Katie Matot in 2018 to be selected to the All-District team.

Fitzgerald was also selected as a First Team All-Conference member and will now be eligible on the CSC Academic All-American Team, which releases on Wednesday, December 20.

The 2023 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.

Fitzgerald, a nursing major, has enjoyed success in both the classroom and field this year. A three-time All-Conference selection, Fitzgerald continued to be one of the most versatile and talented players in the league in 2023. She finished fifth in the league in points (20) and sixth in goals (8), leading the team in both categories. Fitzgerald was behind only Avery Durgan for the team lead in assists with four helpers, and she also registered two game-winners on the season. She scored the game-winners in two 1-0 wins, both conference games, in victories over Oswego State and Fredonia. The New Rochelle native posted her first multi-goal game in the team's 6-0 win over SUNY Canton, scoring two goals and one assist, despite just 16 minutes of action. She also scored a goal and assisted against NCAA tournament team R.I.T., a game Plattsburgh won 3-1.

The Cardinals finished the season 7-5-5, earning the third seed in the conference playoffs, before falling in the first round to SUNY Geneseo.
