2022-23 Roster
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team kicks off its 2022-23 indoor season on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Saints Holiday Relays hosted by St. Lawrence University and looks to continue to climb the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) standings.
The Cardinals, who are led by second-year head coach
Andrew Krug, tied for seventh at last year's conference meet, but they return a potent threat in senior
Brexton Montville (Cadyville, N.Y./Saranac). Montville placed third in the 60-meter dash and sixth in the 200-meter dash at the 2022 SUNYAC Indoor Championships and will look to score in both events again this year.
Sprints
Beyond Montville in the sprint events, the Cardinals return senior
Cody Monnat (Croghan, N.Y./Beaver River), who was a SUNYAC qualifier in the 400-meter dash last year. Other returning sprinters include seniors
Cameron Giuliano (Shokan, N.Y./Onteora),
Aidan Masten (Peru, N.Y./Seton Catholic) and
Connor O'Neil (Dover Plains, N.Y./Dover), junior
Levi Sochia (Norfolk, N.Y./Norwood-Norfolk) and sophomores
Nicolas Anderson (Bronx, N.Y./All Hallows) and
Thomas McDonough (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) and
Sean Ramirez (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale).
Newcomers to the sprint group include junior
Mussa Kone (Bronx, N.Y./John Bowne) and first-year students
Greyson Amankwah (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman),
Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall),
Stephen Fleury (Cadyville, N.Y./Saranac),
Julius James (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) and
Jordan Williams (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes).
Distance
Fresh off of cross country season, Plattsburgh State has a strong stable of distance runners who will look to contribute, led by junior
Michael Brockway (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) and sophomore
Noah Bonesteel (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park). Both Brockway and Bonesteel qualified for the SUNYAC Indoor Championships last year, with Brockway competing in the 5,000-meter run and Bonesteel competing in the mile run. Count on Brockway and Bonesteel to push toward the top of the pack again this season.
The Cardinals also return juniors
Billy Gagnon (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville),
Sean Grady (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington),
Jeremy Gundrum (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Averill Park) and
Logan Van Buren (Port Henry, N.Y./Moriah) and sophomores
Peter Basile (Castleton, N.Y./Maple Hill),
Justin Kumrow (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and
Denali Rodriguez-Garnica (Port Henry, N.Y./Moriah) to the distance group, while newcomers include first-year students
Nick Gelsomino (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point),
Ethan Kahl (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro),
Erik Kucera (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai),
Lukas McIntosh (Schodack Landing, N.Y./Maple Hill) and
Brayden Olden (Warrensburg, N.Y./Warrensburg).
Jumps
Masten and Anderson are the lone returners to the jump group, while James will look to make an impact during his first year in a Cardinal singlet. Masten competed at last year's SUNYAC meet in the long jump.
Throws
Senior
Aidan Tous (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) leads the throwers among the returners, as he qualified for and threw at the conference meet in the shot put last year. Juniors
Jorge Cabrera (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon) and
Spencer Trudo (Champlain, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) also return, while first-year student
Thomas Konnick (Cooperstown, N.Y./Laurens) is the lone newcomer.
Multis
First-year student
Thomas Gilbo (Champlain, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) is the lone Cardinal who expects to compete in the heptathlon this year and is in his first year at Plattsburgh State.
