Brian Coughlan (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) and sophomore midfielder
John Hayes (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) of Plattsburgh State have been named to the 2022 All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Teams. Coughlan earned Second Team honors while Hayes was named to the Third Team.
For Coughlan, it is his first time earning honors while Hayes earns his way onto the All-SUNYAC Third Team for the second time.
Coughlan started in all 18 games he played in 2022, and proved to be one of the most talented offensive players in the entire SUNYAC. Excluding the NCAA tournament which will be played this coming weekend, Coughlan finished as the conference leader in assists with 10 and was tied for fifth in the conference with eight goals. His 26 points tied him for second in the conference as well, with all of those numbers also being the top marks on the Plattsburgh State team. The Pearl River native also added three game-winning goals on the year, tallying 1,357 minutes of action. His season was highlighted by his first career hat trick against SUNY Canton on Oct. 18, as his team won 4-0.
Hayes makes his second career appearance on the all-conference team in as many years played in a Cardinal uniform, turning in another strong season in 2022. The sophomore midfielder put together a 12-point season, registering five goals and two assists over 18 games played. Tallying 1,430 minutes, the Pearl River native also had three game-winning goals, including two in the team's first three games. He also had the game-winning goal in a conference win over Oswego on Oct. 8 and had two goals in the team's final home game against Fredonia on Oct. 15.
