Plattsburgh State SAAC Participates in Adopt-A-Friend Program

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) participated in this year's Adopt-A-Friend program, raising $550 and going above and beyond the lists provided for 10 children. Each of the college's 18 varsity intercollegiate athletics teams had at least one team member participate.

Adopt-A-Friend lists typically have one item on them and can range from art supplies or a toy to winter coats or hats.

"In these trying times, it feels great to be able to give back," Plattsburgh State SAAC Co-President and women's basketball junior Kelly Degnan said. "Plattsburgh State SAAC and all of the student-athletes appreciate the support we receive when we are in season from our community. If winter sports were in session, I know we would have their support. Every year, SAAC tries to do something to give back to the community, and it was an awesome feeling that even with everything going on, we were still able to get together and give back."

"The pandemic has put a strain on many, especially during the upcoming holiday season," Plattsburgh State SAAC Co-President and women's volleyball junior Meghan O'Brien said. "So when we heard about Adopt-A-Friend, we knew it was something SAAC wanted to participate in. We went above and beyond the amount we intended to raise so we were able to get the kids what they wanted and more, which was so fulfilling. I'm glad to be a part of the Plattsburgh community and student-athlete body, and I'm proud of my fellow athletes and SAAC members for coming together to raise the money."

As a whole, SUNY Plattsburgh has committed to 125 wish lists for children in the surrounding communities for this year's Adopt-A-Friend program.
