Barber And Women’s 4x400 Breaks School Record At SUNYAC Championships

BROCKPORT, N.Y. –
Sophomore Janyll Barber (Dannemora, N.Y. / Saranac Central) and the Plattsburgh State women's track and field 4x400-meter relay each set new school records and at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) championship meet hosted by Brockport on Saturday.

The women's team moved up three spots to finish third overall of nine teams.

The relay of junior Elisabeth Plympton (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown), Barber, junior Taylor Canet (Peru, N.Y. / Peru) and junior Marissa Jones (Sauquoit, N.Y. / Sauquoit Valley) won the event with a regional qualifying time of 3:52.94, which is a new meet record. Their time currently ranks them 11th in NCAA Division III.

The old relay record of 3:53.32 was set back in 2011 by Joanne TeRiele, Mahalia Ewers, Jen Risler and Amy McCasland.

Barber set the school record and placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a regional time of 1:03.17. She is currently ranked 17th in NCAA DIII. The old record of 1:03.91 was set back in 2011 by Joanne TeRiele.

Jones won the 400-meters with a regional qualifying time of 57.22 seconds and finished second in the 200-meters with a regional time of 25.33 seconds.  She currently ranks 11th in NCAA DIII in the 400 and 42nd in the 200.

Junior Brianna Coon (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) placed second in the shot put with a mark of 12.52 meters (41' 1").

Freshman Journey Myricks (Cohoes, N.Y. / Shaker) was third in discuss with a regional mark of 36.33 meters (119' 2") and took fourth in shot put with a mark of 11.48 meters (37' 8").

Plympton placed third in both the 100-meters (12.55) and 200-meters (25.54), both regional qualifying times.

Freshman Kristen Boerke (Washingtonville, N.Y. / Washingtonville) finished third in the heptathlon with 3678 points.

Freshman Victoria Whimple (Castleton, N.Y. / Maple Hill) took third in triple jump with a regional mark of 11.82 meters (38' 9 ½") and was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.99 seconds. She currently ranks third in triple jump in NCAA DIII.

Junior Kristina Watrobski (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) placed fifth in the 1500-meters with a time of 4:54.44 and was eighth in the 5K with a time of 18:53.32.

Freshman Aislyn McDonough (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Northeastern Clinton) was fourth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:22.02.

Freshman Rebecca Block (Lake Grove, N.Y. / Sachem North) finished fifth in the 3K steeplechase with a regional time of 11:53.62.­­

Canet took fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a regional time of 1:06.00.

The 4x100-meter relay of Plympton, Jones, Barber and Wimple placed fourth with a regional time of 49.53 seconds.

The Cardinals will compete in the All-Atlantic Regional Track and Field Conference championship May 15-16 in Cortland, N.Y.
