Women’s Track And Field Have Strong Performance On Day One Of SUNYAC Championships

BROCKPORT, N.Y. –
The Plattsburgh State women's track and field team had five podium visits and nine finals qualifiers after day one at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) championship meet on Friday hosted by Brockport.

Junior Brianna Coon (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) finished fourth in the javelin throw with a mark of 33.42 meters (109' 8") and sophomore Desirae Blair (Queens, N.Y. / Bayside) placed seventh with a throw of 32.10 meters (105'  4").

Coon also finished seventh in the hammer throw with a season best mark of 41.08 meters (134' 9").

Sophomore Janyll Barber (Dannemora, N.Y. / Saranac Central) took fifth in long jump with a mark of 5.31 meters (17' 5 ¼") while Freshman Victoria Whimple (Castleton, N.Y. / Maple Hill) was seventh with a mark of 5.21 meters (17' 1 ¼").

Freshman Kristen Boerke (Washingtonville, N.Y. / Washingtonville) currently sits in third in the heptathlon after four events with 2306 points. She ran 16.37 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, 27.81 seconds in the 200-merers, jumped 1.49 meters (4' 10 ½") in high jump and threw 7.70 meters (34' 5 ¾") in shot put.

Freshman Aislyn McDonough (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Northeastern Clinton) sits in first in the 800-meters heading into the finals on Saturday with a regional qualifying time of 2:20.96.

Junior Marissa Jones (Sauquoit, N.Y. / Sauquoit Valley) sits in first in the 400-meters heading into the finals on Saturday with a regional qualifying time of 57.00 seconds heading into the finals on Saturday.

Jones also qualified in the 200-meters with a regional time of 25.78 seconds, which puts her fifth.

Barber and junior Taylor Canet (Peru, N.Y. / Peru) both qualified for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles sitting in third (1:04.89) and fifth (1:06.57) respectively, both regional qualifying marks, both times are also personal bests.

Whimple qualified for the finals of the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.81 seconds, which puts her sitting in fifth.

Junior Elisabeth Plympton (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) qualified for finals in the 200-meters with a regional qualifying time of 25.52 seconds, which puts her second. She qualified in the 100-meters with a time of 12.73 seconds, which places her sitting in fifth.

The women's team currently sits in sixth after one day and will wrap up the SUNYAC championship on Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m.
