CANTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team kicked off its 2019-20 indoor season on Saturday, placing first out of six teams at the Saints Holiday Relays hosted by St. Lawrence University.
 
The meet came down to the final events, and the Cardinals wound up edging St. Lawrence for the top spot in the team standings with 176 points to the Saints' 167. The University of Ottawa placed third with 51 points, followed by the Ottawa Lions (fourth, 36), SUNY Potsdam (fifth, 29) and Carleton University (sixth, 5).
 
Event winners included the sprint medley relay of freshmen Cameron Aviles (Campbell Hall, N.Y./Washingtonville), Cameron Giuliano (Shokan, N.Y./Onteora), Marlon Peak Jr. (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland) and Erik Sicko (Stillwater, N.Y./Stillwater) that clocked a 3:49.49; freshman Jared Davidson (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) in the 300-meter dash (36.15); freshman Joe Yusaitis (Stillwater, N.Y./Stillwater) in the 3,000-meter run (10:06.51); the distance medley relay team of junior Arthur Horan (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland), sophomore Joseph Chianese (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River), freshman Nicholas Boncore (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) and junior Andrew Horan (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) that clocked an 11:13.34; the 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Jacob Leaper (Scotia Glenville, N.Y./Scotia Glenville), senior Anthony Ciccarelli (Smithtown, N.Y./Commack), freshman Brendyn Marrero (Rock Tavern, N.Y./Washingtonville) and Davidson that clocked a 3:37.99; freshman Jeremiah von Borstel (Massena, N.Y./Massena) in the long jump (5.34 meters – 17' 6.25") and Ciccarelli in the pole vault (3.51 meters – 11' 6.25").
 
In addition, Davidson set a meet record in the 300-meter dash, with his 36.15 eclipsing the former standard of 36.34 set by Bertwin Ben-Smith of the Ottawa Lions last year.
 
Runner-up finishes came from Andrew Horan in the mile (4:36.08); Giuliano in the 500-meter dash (1:16.35); Boncore in the 1,000-meter run (2:47.42) and junior Michael Ferris (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) in the weight throw (11.77 meters – 38' 7.5").
