Plattsburgh State Athletics to Induct, Honor Hall of Fame Class of 2019 on Friday, Oct. 18

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation, in conjunction with the Office of Alumni Relations, has announced the Plattsburgh State Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2019. Comprising the Hall of Fame's 35th induction class are Randi (Johnson) Bennett '03 G'06 (softball), Danielle Blanchard '09 (women's ice hockey), Allison (Busby) Deshane '08 (women's cross country/track and field), Toni (Wiszowaty) Lynch '08 G'11 (women's cross country/track and field), John MacMenamin '80 (men's track and field), Jason Sousa '06 (men's soccer) and Gena (Rosenbaum) Trombley '06 (women's soccer).
 
The annual induction ceremony and dinner will be hosted in the Warren Ballrooms on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus. The 2019 Cardinal Athletic Hall of Fame Induction and Dinner will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18. Seats for this year's event are $30 per person, ($15 for children under the age of 12), and those interested in attending the ceremonies should register by Oct. 11 at http://alumni.plattsburgh.edu/HallofFame.
 
25963Randi (Johnson) Bennett helped put the Cardinals on the map as one of the pioneers of the Plattsburgh State softball program. A three-time First-Team All-Region selection, Bennett aided in Plattsburgh State's three SUNYAC Tournament appearances during her career, and in 2002, the Cardinals qualified for the ECAC Upstate Tournament while posting a 31-15 overall record. The Saugerties, N.Y., native was also a two-time All-SUNYAC selection and earned a spot on the All-ECAC Upstate Second Team in 2002. Bennett, the 2002-03 Plattsburgh State Female Senior Achievement Award winner, currently holds the program's career record in both triples (19) and stolen bases (98). She also ranks among the program's all-time leaders in at-bats (tied for second, 484), total bases (fourth, 243), slugging percentage (fifth, .502), runs (tied for fifth, 109), hits (seventh, 158) and batting average (eighth, .326).

25964One of the most accomplished student-athletes to compete at Plattsburgh State in any sport, Danielle Blanchard led the Cardinals' women's ice hockey team to its first two national championships in program history in 2006-07 and 2007-08. In 2007-08, Blanchard earned the Laura Hurd Award, which is awarded annually to the top player in NCAA Division III women's ice hockey. Her name remains scattered across Division III's career record book, as she is tied for third in shorthanded goals (13) and seventh in game-winning goals (20) while ranking 10th in points (177), 10th in power-play goals (25), 12th in assists (90) and 13th in goals (87).  The Newmarket, Ontario, native earned All-America honors four times during her career and was named the Most Outstanding Player at the 2007 NCAA Division III Tournament. Also honored within the department, she was the Plattsburgh State Female Athlete of the Year in 2006-07 and 2007-08 and was named the Plattsburgh State Female Senior Achievement Award winner in 2008-09.

25965Allison (Busby) Deshane was a skilled distance runner who led the Cardinals to a second-place finish at the NCAA Division lll Cross Country Championships in 2007. Deshane's top individual finish at the national meet came in 2005, as she finished fourth individually at the 2005 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships with a six-kilometer time of 22:05.9. One of the most decorated distance runners in Plattsburgh State history, the Vestal, N.Y., native was an All-American in outdoor track and field (2005) and a two-time All-American in cross country (2005, 2007). Deshane excelled in the classroom as well, as she earned the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence in 2007-08 and received the Dr. Richard D. Semmler Scholar-Athlete Award that same year. She was also a CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team selection in 2007-08.
   
Toni (Wiszowaty) Lynch wrapped up her career as one of the most accomplished distance runners in the history of the Plattsburgh State cross country and track and field programs, and she helped the Cardinals finish second at the 2007 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. She earned three All-America citations in outdoor track and field 25966(one in 2006, two in 2007), two All-America honors in cross country (2006, 2007) and one All-America plaudit in indoor track and field (2007). Her top cross country performance came at the 2006 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, as she finished fourth at the meet, while she was the runner-up in the 10,000-meter run at both the 2006 and 2007 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Shirley, N.Y., native earned the Plattsburgh State Female Achievement Award in 2007-08 and currently holds program records in the indoor 3,000-meter run (9:50.16), the indoor 5,000-meter run (16:52.81), the outdoor 5,000-meter run (16:44.99) and the outdoor 10,000-meter run (33:57.46).

25967A two-time All-America honoree in the discus throw, John MacMenamin remains one of the top throwers in program history. He set the program record of 179' 3" in the discus throw during the qualifying rounds of the 1980 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which was believed to be the fourth-best throw in Division III history at the time. The Granville High School product finished second in the discus throw at the 1978 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships and won the SUNYAC title in the event all four years of college. In addition to his accomplishments in track and field, he competed as an offensive tackle and snapped punts on the Plattsburgh State football team during his sophomore year.

25968One of the key players on the Plattsburgh State men's soccer team that made a run to the semifinal round of the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2005, Jason Sousa finished his career as one of the most decorated student-athletes in program history. Sousa became the program's first-ever three-time All-American, which included First-Team All-America honors in 2005. Also regarded as one of the top players in the region throughout his career, he earned three First-Team All-Region accolades and three First-Team All-SUNYAC honors in addition to being named the SUNYAC Player of the Year in 2005. Along with his senior season culminating in a trip to the national semifinals, the Brampton, Ontario, native helped Plattsburgh State win its sixth SUNYAC title in program history in 2005.
  
25969A four-time First-Team All-SUNYAC selection, Gena (Rosenbaum) Trombley remains one of the most impactful offensive players in Plattsburgh State women's soccer history. Trombley is the program's all-time leader in goals (60), assists (34) and points (154), and she was a three-time All-Region honoree. The Morrisonville, N.Y., native earned SUNYAC Rookie of the Year laurels in 2002 and was named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team in 2003. Also a four-year All-NYSWCAA selection, she earned NYSWCAA Offensive Player of the Year honors during her sophomore year in 2003 when she established single-season program records in goals (21), assists (13) and points (55).
